deleted images do not go into the windows trash bin
Hi all,
when I delete an image (catalog) then the image does not go into the windows trash bin nor into the capture one trash folder.
I have deleted a bunch of images which I was able to recover from a backup...
Every software I am aware of is using the windows trash bin - except for CO ☹️
I could not find a setting in CO10 and I have checked the settings for the windows trash bin
Any advise?
Best Regards,
Michael

Sorry for bumping, but I really like to know if this is a bug, or if this on purpose, or if it just happenes to me... 0 -
Hi, I've wanted to ask the same question. I ve spent some time yesterday digging through my backups in order to find accidentally deleted photo.
Any plans on fixing this issue ?0 -
For full discussions have a look through the forum - such questions come up at least every month, sometimes more often.
Short answer:
In V10 and using catalogues there are two options you can select when deleting an image.
One will use the C1 trash and allow you to change your mind and re-instate an original image and all of its edits, etc. If, however, you decide you really do want to delete it you can do so from the C1 Trash folder just like from the system trash folder but without the risk that some other system tidy up activity will remove something you are not yet ready to remove.
This should also be the preferred approach, I would have thought, for anyone using referenced files and making use of the same source image files even when editing from different applications.
The other option is for those who have, over the years, insisted that when they decide to delete an image they want it deleted completely from the disk not just moved to another folder somewhere.
It sounds like you have actioned that option.

Hello Grant,
I also have the same problem when deleting images within a catalogue. Alt Delete or Ctrl Delete both offer to either 'Remove Reference' or 'Delete'.
If 'Delete' is selected the file is deleted permanently in both cases without appearing in the Trash folder or the Windows Recycle folder.
The standard keyboard shortcuts are used.
Windows 10 with Capture One 10.0.2
Not all bad as the 'Remove Reference' option works!

SFA, this is exactly what I'd like to do...
I use C1 10 in catalog mode but I am not able to get the images into the capture one trash folder.
Maybe you can lead me to the answer - I could not find it yet.
Thanks,

Michael (weidmic),
A remark 1st: I'm on Mac. But I guess Mac and Windows versions are the same here.
Deleted variants don't necessarily go into the trash folder.
If you only have a single variant of an image and you trash it, it goes to the trash.
If you have multiple variants of the same image and you trash all of them, they all go to the trash.
But when there are multiple variants of the same image and you trash only one of them, it's gone.
'Undo' is the only way to get it back. If you decide to recover it after doing adjustments on other variants, this might not be an option.

Hi Michael,
There is a fairly long series of posts here
viewtopic.php?f=69&t=25222&hilit=trash+folder#p117883
that more or less covers the same subject as far as I can tell. See whether you agree.
The last entry on the thread seems to confirm, officially, everything that went before it.
HTH.
