Smart Albums on Groups
Is there a way to get a Smart Album to work on a Group (with various projects and albums inside) within the User Collection? As far as I figured out Smart Albums only work inside of a Project or over the whole User Collection.
Thanks

A Group is just a place holder, a Project is a search boundary (Smart Albums work on search). More on this here:

I am still confused about how a Smart Album works in a Project, or how to structure my catalog to make it work.
I have a Group called Wedding 2015-06-02 into which I have imported four sessions of pictures from four different photographers. I created a project and moved the group into that project thinking I could boundary a smart album for all the pictures in the group. If I put a smart album in any of the sessions, I can identify my 4-star and greater pictures as expected. How do I do this for the entire group/project? I would like one smart album for all the sessions in the project/group.0 -

Difficult to answer as you mix terminology. I do not want to nail you on the exact terms, but it makes it hard to understand what you have done and what you have achieved.
This is what I would do. Create a Project name Wedding-date, not a Group, just a Project. In that project you create 4 Albums, not sessions, but Albums. Each album contains the images the respective photographers. In the same project you create a Smart Album for the 4+ rated images. Done. All 4+ rated images which are in each of the 4 albums will show up in you Smart Album.
If it does not work that way, your catalog has an issue.0 -
Many thanks for the quick reply. Your suggestion works.
Project
- Album 1
- Album 2
- Album 3
- Album 4
- Smart Album
However, the way I got my images into my Catalog was by importing four Sessions from another computer where I processed pics from four different photographers. So, if I drag the pics from Session 1 into Album 1 and Session 2 into Album 2 under the same Project, the Smart Album works, as you suggest. Now, what do I do with the four Sessions that I originally imported into my Catalog.? Put them in a Group and collapse the group so I don't have that clutter?
It appears that a Session creates a Smart Album boundary like a Project does, correct?0 -

Yes, and that was your problem. Those imported sessions are not sessions anymore, but projects. There you are! Boundaries!
Just move the albums inside those projects/session to a new Project and you're done.0 -

I imported a Session with Albums into my Catalog. I dragged the Session Folder which contains several Albums into my Wedding Project and renamed the Session Folder to Norm Images Folder. All the images came over correctly as Albums in the folder.. However, the Smart Albums in the Project are not working correctly. I had a Smart Album with 4+ Stars in the original Session and it came along with the other Albums into my Wedding Project, but it shows all my 4+ images in my entire User Collection, not just the Wedding Project. I then created a new Smart Album in the Wedding Project with 4+ stars and it has just images from my Wedding Project, but when I change an image in any Album in my Norm Images Folder in the Project to 5 stars the Smart Album does not update. The Smart Albums work fine for images outside of my Norm Images (rating an images in the Erika Images Album shows correctly in the Smart Folders everywhere. Here is my hierarchy:
Yorkshire Album
Wedding Project
- Erika images Album
- Chase Images Album
- 4+ stars Smart Album - Does not update when images in Folder below that are rated 5 stars, but updates when images are in Albums outsider of the Norm Images Folder
- Norm Images Folder
- - Wedding Folder
- - Annapolis Folder
- - 4+ stars old Smart Album - Has 5-star images from my entire User Collection, including the Yorkshire Album which is outside the Wedding Project and from another Project as well.
- - 4+ stars new Smart Album - has 5-star images from my Wedding Project, does not update when I rate a picture in one of the Folders, say the Annapolis Folder
I thought a Project would create a boundary for a Smart Album, but the Smart Album seems to have a memory from when it was outside the Project. The All Images Smart folder inside the Wedding Project has the same memory issue and has all images from several Projects in my User Collection, but not all images.
How can I fix these Smart Albums and get them to work correctly?0
