moving back to C1 from LR a DNG question

Hi,

Its great to see how C1 has changed, mutated and moved forward these past 5 or 6 yrs since I used it. After the diabolical way Adobe has treated its LR customers I feel morally obliged to put my learning hat back on and move to C1, especially and particularly as it now has decent DAM facilities....

However, all of my images are DNG files created on import in LR... I did this because I have some older Mamiya, Hassy and Fuji file formats that need to be in a readable file format going forward.

My problem is...: LR converted DNG's look awful in C1...! Sorry but they do, is there a workflow or workaround that I can use to firstly make C1 read the XMP changes within the DNG..? For example, images converted to B&W in LR, with the changes written to the XMP file don't show up in C1.

I'm trying to avoid two catalogues, on two different asset management systems (pre April 2016 in LR post Apr 2016 in C1).

Or take a year off to re work a million images (or the selects from those million if you know what I mean)

I love C1, am morally appalled by Adobe but cannot see a way to successfully bring my images over.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  I'm not sure there is a satisfactory answer. C1 ver 9 does fine with all my DNG files. These DNGs are created from scanned negatives using VueScan, raw files from my Leica Ms, and Nikon NEFs converted to DNG using Lightroom. I have no idea why you are not getting the same results from your DNGs.
  
  What I have been unsuccessful in is to get C1 to recognize Lightroom edits to DNGs. From what I understand Lightroom will only create an XMP sidecar file for proprietary formats like NEF or CR2. For DNGs it embeds the metadata and adjustment data in the DNG itself. I have verified that it does this by converting a NEF file to DNG on import, editing it in Lightroom, saving the metadata to file, and then exporting it as a DNG. Windows Photo Viewer will open the edited DNG and show the edits. Capture one ver 9 will show the edits in the thumbnail, but not in the image itself. I conclude that C1 ignores the image adjustment data.
  
  This does not pose a problem in my use, since I either edit in Lightroom or C1. In your situation I am unaware of how you can bring your DNGs into C1 while preserving edits made in Lightroom. In theory one could import the Lightroom catalog into C1, but I have not been successful with that even with relatively small catalogs.
  
  Update:
  I edited a Nikon NEF in Lightroom and exported the edits as an XMP file. Imported both into C1 and the edits were ignored. Adobe Bridge and ACR recognized the edits.

  I will look at other DNG's today (D810) and see how they look, I suspect most shots using flash and a colour checker will be fine.
  
  As per embedded xmp data in LR DNG's, surely that's a good thing and the correct approach...? You hand me a DNG with adjustments, I work on it and hand it back etc..... This will never happen as it would mean some form of linear compatibility with ALL RAW converters.... Imagine that...! Value X in LR equals value Y in C1, maybe they could do it deep in the software but I don't think it's a priority.
  
  Right now, with Adobe ruffling the feathers of a large number of their LR customers, C1 can take a significant chunk of the market by helping us migrate our catalogues or creating fresh catalogues work in C1 9.
  
  I'm going to a photo seminar today in London called STAND OUT to specifically chat to the Capture One guys, I'll keep you posted.
  
  I feel C 1 is so close.

  Thank you Steve, looking forward to your feedback. Same problem here migrating from LR to C1 as LR does an awful job with Sony 7R2 rendering. Cannot think of keeping to DAM updated continuously.
