Help! Accidentally Deleted Files

One must be responsible for one's actions. Unfortunately, you learned the hard way. Careful next time. Don't expect C1 programmers to always have your back.

I hope there are no "System Restore" feature request tickets in the queue because someone accidentally deleted their registry.

I thought v4 would treat deleted files like v3.7 and I would therefore have the chance to "reverse" deleted items if necessary. Well, I guess this isn't the case.

I accidentally deleted a couple of files tonight. I cannot find them anywhere, including my system Recycle Bin. Do I stand a chance of finding the file and recovering it?

    Thanks. Mark

That's very strange Mark as C1 puts any deleted image files (and their settings and preview files) into the recycle bin. Very easy to recover all related files.
A very useful feature actually, clearing up the settings and previews files on delete, same if you move files within C1.

Mark, I confirm what imacken just wrote. You should be able to retrieve images deleted from within CO4 from the Recycle Bin.
Do you have any utility running that effects the Recycle Bin's behavior? Can you check its Properties to see if it is not bypassed or set to a small size (10% = default). You should test this with a dummy image to be sure the next time.

    Good luck.

Paul, are you associated with PO in any way?

Imacken, no I am not. I like the software (using it for years) and have friendly connections with the PO representative in my country. No commercial bindings however. How come you asking?

    Paul,
No particluar reason really, it's just that you quite often confirm what someone else has said and sometimes speak with an authority which suggests an association with PO. (Nothing wrong with either, BTW!)
    Just wondered, that's all.
    Regards

Thanks for explaining Iain, I think I get that authoritative tone when I have tried out something myself which makes me confident about what I am saying. I have done quite some digging around in CO4, both Win & Mac, as some others here have done too.

Still waiting for an offering from PO (just kiddin').

    Paul and Iain,

I am totally stumped. I have nothing running that impacts my Recycle Bin. I also processed these files that are now deleted to jpg format and deleted the jpg files as well. The jpg files are in my Recycle Bin, but the .CR2 raw files are not.

Paul, I take full responsibility. The good news is that I have these files backed up externally so I can retrieve them.

It would be very helpful, though, if PO would document significant changes like this in their Help file!!! I can find nothing about the Delete functionality change in the Help information.

Sorry Mark, but I'm stumped too!
I have my output folder set somewhere separate from my image folders, but I tried processing to the same (image) folder, deleted the CR2 file, and the jpg file was still in its original place. I also tried deleteing only the jpg, and it went to the recycle bin and was recovered easily.
Whay OS are you using? I'm on Vista.

    Thanks Iain.

    I'm using Windows XP.

I also output my processed files to a different folder. So I had deleted the CR2 from one folder and deleted the processed jpg from a separate folder. The jpg showed up in the recycle bin, but not the .CR2 nor the .cos. And it is not consistent. I see other CR2's in the recycle bin for a different job.

Very, very bizarre. For the life of me I cannot figure out what is happening nor can I think of anything squirrely that I may have done. I thought maybe I did the delete on these couple of files a few days back and therefore may have emptied the recycle bin in the meantime. But the file is on yesterday's external backup, proving it was there yesterday.

    Hmmmm . . . . 🤬

Thanks again for helping me think through this and for trying things on your end.

Mark, though I agree it sounds inconsistent, the question needs to be asked - are your raw / developed folders on different drive letters? I ask this because the Recycle Bin can have different settings for different drives (it does in Vista and I'm fairly certain XP does too). So, for example, you can tell Windows to use the Recycle Bin on D: using 'x' MB or % of the free space, but to not use the Recycle Bin at all for C: (for example). These settings are found by right-clicking a Recycle Bin icon and selecting Properties.

Funny to find this thread. I'm giving the 4.x trial a go and am wondering why every file I delete withing CP1 V4 goes to my Recycle Bin when I have it set not to save ANY files on ANY drive.
