Preview sharpness again
Hey, Keith, Ulf, Jon, Phase...
From the Release Notes
On my screen (Eizo CG241W; 1920x1200) this happens with files of P45, Sony A100, Minolta Dynax 5D/7D, Leica M8.
In the discussions about the betas here on the forum Ulf and Jon commented that previews are generated in full resolution up from 67% viewing size. So from my point of view this does not seem to be an “issueâ€. It’s more a consequence of how the previews are generated.
However. I don’t want to say that owners of P-Backs should be handled preffered – not at all. But that the softeware produces soft previews especially from Phase Ones own P45 files... this is out of all reason.
Please think one step forward. If it comes to teathered shooting (in the Pro version) it’s essential to see the entire image clear and sharp. How to judge about composition, DOF and ... everything if I have to set a 100%crop? And it’s the same in postprocessing/adjustment.
In V3 the 100% view is a quarter of the image (25%) and 400% is the original image size (100%). And these two sizes are always sharp. Other sizes are pixilated.
Maybe you worry about performance and storage, okay. But as it is beyond doubt essential to see the entire picture sharp you should at least incorporate the generation of highresolution previews for 25% and smaller views.
Me personally I don’t need the 50% and the 67% view in C1. But 25% (for the entire image) and 100% should always be clear and sharp.
Do you agree? And will there be sharp previews for all camera file / screen resolution combinations in upcoming versions?
I am earnestly interessted in an answer.

As a matter of form: me I have feedback from the support team too.
My request for preview sharpness at 25% and smaller viewing sizes (fixed) "is formally entered as a feature request and in all likelyhood should be implemented in the pro version."
Really great news for me! 😄0 -

That's really great news. SInce I use 50% for evaluating printing output,
perhaps I should put in a feature request, also. 😄

We will end up with poor performance and delayed adjustments (do you know the "pumping" images in ACR/LR when you adust something?).
