Capture One won't open after crash

The server error may explain why I cannot login to "re-activate" V9 after my "trial" period with 9.1.1.

More to the point I suspect that it need to do a check back to the site and cannot do so at the moment. So I can't run the previously activated 9.1 either.

Checked a few things and the Activiation server seems to be unavailable at the moment (saw a new message this time!).

I cannot start V9.1.x at all.

    However V9.0.x will run.

That will do for me for my immediate need.

As for your crash problem .... any error messages?

Have you checked for a residual Lock File?

Grant, residual Lock File, where do I find that and when found is it easy to decipher what it means?

    Thanks.

    Richard,

Good question. Not something I have had to resort to looking for previously.

I think it may be a catalogue thing mainly - I don't recall whether you are a catalogue or sessions user.

Normally it would just be a file indicating that the database is in use. If it exists further opening of the DB is prevented.

In your case have you tried starting C1 without autoloading the previous session/catalog?

Another thought would be to run a verify of the problem session/catalogue. I think you would need to open a different session/catalogue first - hence the importance of finding a way to start C1 by overriding the default load settings.

Can you load an alternative from your "recent" list?

Have you checked the application.log file (and the other log files)?
Do you run a WIndows 10 Insider build?

If you are using a catalog, Capture One creates a zero-byte file called "writelock" in the same folder as the catalog file. If it is still there when Capture is not running, you could try deleting it.

There are another 2 files that Capture One creates while running, which are deleted when Capture One closes normally, but could get left behind if it crashes. The filenames depend on the version of Capture One you are using.

    In my case they are:
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\CaptureOne\Stability\9.1.1.14\3E6E5BCE\TerminatedByBsodOrPower.crh
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\CaptureOne\Stability\9.1.1.14\3E6E5BCE\TerminatedWhileRunning.crh

I don't know if they would stop Capture One from restarting, but could be worth deleting, if present.

Edit: just tried the download of v9.1.1 and it's working for me.

    Grant,
At the moment I can't open any catalogue that I've created.

I've attempted to open some of my backup files for the catalogues and no luck there.

When I double-click on Capture One to open it (in the same way I've always opened it) nothing happens, no welcome screen, nothing.

I'f I go to the Task Manage I can see that Capture One is 0% CUP Memory and just 12.6MB of Memory (I presume this is RAM?).

    Regards,

I've just re-downloaded Capture One and re-installed it over my present copy and it opened as it should do.

I've no idea as to what went wrong and why Capture One wouldn't open but at least ti's all back to be where it should be.

Thank you everyone for your very kind input... 😊

    Richard,

    Random thoughts.

Are you on a purchased or subscription licence?

It might be that it was C1's time to "phone home" and check activations - and it couldn't.

A totally random thought from me .... but I have known stranger things to happen.

    Grant,
Subscription, but it wouldn't open just prior to re-installing the application so I don't think that's the answer... although it did cross my mind as well.

You've got me doubting my logic now, you could still be right... ?

    Regards,
    Richard
