Catalog and Collections

Hi there
is there a way where i can see all the photos that are not in a Collection
the reason for this question i have a catalog with managed files and i would like to see if all the photos are "under control" with 8000 photos as managed

  I don't believe it can be done natively. IE a search criteria that would state (image is/is not in a collection)
  
  A workaround that may be suitable:
  For all images that are in collections, assign a keyword. Example - "collection"
  Then create a smart folder with the criteria - Keywords - Does not contain - collection.
  
  This will show all the images that don't have the keyword so you can add them to collections and while they are still selected you can assign the keyword.
  
  The danger of this workflow is accidentally adding the keyword before adding the images to a collection.
