file naming conventions

When I process files that have been downloaded to the computer without useing the CP1 import and rename feature I rename then all with the same name, for example "jack" no when the process otu the file name becomes "jack-1, jack-2, etc" Can I put zeros infront of these numbers so that when imported to another program whcih sorts by name they are in order?
