Hello there, I was very happy to see C1 Now supporting the GF1. I downloaded the trial and Love the output quality and the tools in pro. My mouse was hovering over the buy button except I can't output as a DNG and only JPG? Why is that? I don't mind switching from Aperture to C1 for RAW processing but I really don't want to go back to the "Finder" for Archiving, retrieving and viewing my data (in full screen etc...)

I would be happy to be able to correct and process in C1 and continue my 3 year old archive in Aperture.

even where output to DNG is supported you are not saving your C1 adjustments... so what is the point ? archive the original raw files...

Aperture in it's present version will not import the GF1's RAW files but it would import DNG's. So my point is i could process in C1 then continue to archive the C1 exported DNG's in aperture with my other data. that's if it exported them, but it doesn't seem to want to? or am i missing some setting?

Just tried to output to DNG but it is for this format not supported indeed (5.0.1). Maybe later or try another DNG converter.

but C1 does not write its adjustments to DNG files - and if you want to archive just the files w/o adjustments then DNG is not a good idea either - even Adobe's own DNG converter discards some of the original raw data during conversion and it does that intentionally... just Adobe prefers not to tell about this... http://forums.adobe.com/thread/528900?tstart=0 - read postings in the middle of the topic

This is correct, DNG output is not possible for the Leica and Panasonic RAW platform. The reason for this is simple ownership restrictions. As we do not own the Leica or Panasonic Cameras/RAW file format the decision on the files limitations in Capture One are not up to us. Being as such we are limited to the present functionality of the GF1 file. This is comparable to why Camera Control, LCC and Live Preview is restricted to Phase One Cameras and Backs.

does it mean that Panasonic granted some kind of permission to P1 to access its raw files and be able to write .TIFF/.JPG output, but not .DNG output (allegedly because DNG must include some information, some bytes, straight 1:1 from .RW2, which P1 thinks is proprietary) ?

Judging by the presence of such a limitation it sure would seem that way but I would hate for anyone to jump to conclusions 😉

    Thanks Drew,

That clears up the mystery for me... It's funny that Panasonic make a system that is in unrestricted in what format of "glass" you use to take a picture then lock it in a bottle neck format. Hopefully they will relax their format restrictions soon.

After much tinkering last night with Adobe DNG converter I could not write a recognisable file... But I found that Aperture can "archive" with a preview my original GF1 raws however it can't open them for editing

So anyway I love the results C1 creates so will buy C1 to process my RAW's and back up the originals along with my other work.

BTW is there a full screen View mode?

    thanks again

    Neil
