Dave McG ,
Check your Preferences > Process Settings tab
and be sure to check-mark the Use Capture Name as Default Name
This should do the trick for you.
Cheers,

have looked at the settings and the \"use capture name as default name\" has the tick mark ...any other settings i should look at ?

Dave McG,
I suppose you need to go through all your settings if you made any changes from the initial install.
Do you get a window upon creating QuickProof HTML of Overwrite existing previews? and \" Yes - Yes to All - No - and Cancel ?
What camera RAW files are you using?
Where are your image files located?
What is set as your destination for QuickProof ?
What are the filenames?
Did you do a Batch Rename at all?
Sincerely,

hi,
the option box only has a check box for \"overwrite existing quickproofs\" have tried this checked and unchecked... get same result.
files are RAW from Canon 20d
they are on a usb external hard drive and in the capture window of c1 pro
quickproof directory is selected for \"My Pictures\" folder on pc hard drive, also tried the default export folder of c1 pro
files have been renamed in c1 pro and retain xxxx.cr2
hope that all makes sense to you..

Dave,
Yes, this makes sense - thanks.
Lets eliminate a lot of variables here with a Test:
Copy 6 or so images from your ExHD and place them in a Session folder at the default location of:
C:\\Program Files\\Phase One\\Capture One PRO \\ Captures\\ Your Session
You will use the Browse to in Capture One and select Your Session folder >> and then hit icon Insert current folder as permanent collection
Now Thumbnails and Previews will build. Use QuickProofs to create an HTML index document and have the Create the default export folder inside the collection folder radio button selected.
At the Preferences > Process Settings tab
check-mark only the Use Capture Name as Default Name
Now, if all works well, then you'll need to determine what is up with your ExHD, i.e. how is it formatted, read/write permissions, mapped drive etc.
Windows can have a hard time with having images on ExHD, Desktop rather than all local. It can be done, but this of course depends on how things are set-up of course.
Keep us posted on how this goes.
Cheers,

hi keith, have worked through your route and obtained the correct result.
will have to work out where to download and keep files as the local disk is not always available when large aounts of processing required...
thaks for the info.
