HHow do I create catalogues and albums which contain images
I am struggling with the catalogue function. The on-line support says File/New Catalogue but there is no such command. I have succeeded in importing some images which are listed chronologically under recent imports. I have created a user collection ( I think I did this by creating a new album) and a folder within this but none of my images appear in the album, its subsidiary folder or come up when I touch the folder tab. At present I am using ACDSee Pro 6 which operates using the windows file structure and I would hope to replicate a version of this in Capture one express. The advertising blurb says that the program can organise your files but it is a mystery to me having played with menus for an hour or so, to know how this can be done. Help! posting.php?mode=post&f=47#

Hi Miles,
Capture One Express 7 supports only one (1) catalog, where Capture One Pro 7 allows you to open and create multiple catalogs. CO Express 7 opens always with its catalog.
A catalog has its own internal structure which is entirely up to you to create. You made a good start with creating an album in the User Collections section in the Library tool. You have to fill it with images yourself by dragging it from a Recent Import collection for example. You can create also Smart Album instead, define one or more rules, and Capture One will populate that Smart Albums automatically and according to the rules.
A catalog has much to explore and it might take a few more attempts to get the hang of it.
One tip of the day: When importing, select either Inside Catalog or Current Location in the Import To section. For your existing image collection I suggest you choose Current Location.
This will not only keep your catalog small, but you will also see all your imported disk folders in the Library, Folders section at the bottom.0 -
You can also upgrade to Capture One Pro and use a Session Workflow, that rely's on your Windows Folder structure. It sounds like this is what you are used to so it may be the best option going forward. 0 -
Thanks very much for replies. I am trying to find a way incorporating COE into my workflow without the expense of going to the full version. I am beginning to perceive the way things work but only just. Having created a collection, I then create an album into which I can import either all or some of the images in a given folder on my hard drive. However I also have the contents of a folder under one of the recent import tabs and have managed to drag one or a few of these images into an album. It looks as though you can not drag them all into an album as the selection ( select all) disappears when you start to drag. It looks to me that using COE you really have to create a whole new hierarchy of folders which can be different from the one in Windows . Two silly questions - Can I assume that the images in the COE catalogues are simply links rather than duplication of the images in the windows file structure? When I import new images which I want to view in other programs as well as COE from a camera card I have to create a windows folder as well as an album destination in COE?
It seems a bit complicated !
