Noise, colour and sharpening issues
Hi,
I am new here. I am C1LE user (happy one) and have C1-4 on a "trial". There are some issues that make me wonder. Here they are:
1) Same NEF image taken with Nikon D80. "As shot" WB is different in C1LE and in C1-4.
2) In "Q" mode I can't set Nikon D80 ICC profile. Name is there but is "pale" and I can't click on it. But I can choose all other ICC profiles from all cameras 🤓
3)Same NEF image ( Nikon D80) process in C1LE and in C1-4 but very different result.
WB - automatic
Exposure: +1 ( saturation, contrast on 0)
sharpening: 48-0,8-10

On left C1LE , right C1-4.
Any idea why C1-4 is worse than C1LE?

I've done a lot of comparisons between v3 and v4. Color, detail, and noise
for my Canon raws are virtually identical. If I pixel-peep at 100%, I believe
v4 has just slightly more noise, but nowhere near what I see in your
samples.
It's possible v3 could be applying more NR in the background(even with
NR turned off) - not really sure. But, in all the images I have worked with,
I am seeing very similar performance from both versions.

I habve the same camera. Can you post the meta data from the RAW image? I am really curious as to the ISO you shot that image at. 0 -
ISO 160

That surprises me that you have that much noise for such a low ISO to begin with. But I do notice more detail in the coat area, and on the jeans of the skater. It appears to me though the highlights are set too high since there is no detail in the ice. I wonder if the if the high dynamic range tools have any impact on the noise. How does the image look with no adjustments? 0 -
I think i can answer the profile question as this caught me out as well.
Its greyed out because it is already set. v4 seems to automatically choose the correct (or default camera) profile. Thats why you can change it to the others but cant select the one thats already selected if that makes sense.
Hope i've got that right. I posted about this during the beta stage as i thought the 40D profile wasn't working as i couldn't select it but it turns out it was already selected by C1.
To my untrained eyes the shot on the left is darker than the one on the right and so i would expect to see more noise in the right hand one in the darker areas. Especially as you have used +1 EV. This is what i would expect to happen. These two images aren't processed the same and so shouldn't really look the same IMHO.
