Unhappy Customers
Hey Phase, there seems to be a lot of unhappy customers with the release of the new software. Can you please post some feedback to let us know what is going on. Are you going to change anything or is it best to jump ship now?

Let's hope so, I guess we are all been used as Beta testers and hopefully 4.5.1 Pro will address the numerous issues we all have with the new version, the frustrating thing is that version 3 was really good (except for the 1dsmk3 issue ☹️ ) and I was hoping 4 would catch up with the competition. I would love to know why/how it got past the photographers/developers who were used as beta testers ❓
Sorry to keep bashing you Phase One but you had a really good piece of software which should have been even better.0 -
I am not unhappy customer, I like the IQ --even the unhappyest of customers agree that IQ is exelent--, and the User Interface, I did not like at first, but going back to 3.7.9 and I even see it a bit bare compared to 4.5
The flexibility of the TABs is something that could improve productivity. There are many new useful features...
I have to learn how to use the Color Editor that is now included in the main program -it used to be a separate application. (Is there a PDF on how to use this?)
If there is one more other not unhappy user reading this, please post some of the positive....0 -

I'm in between. IQ wise C1 rules. This is why I use it primary. Responsiveness and workflow speed is outstanding ... in V3.

On Vista(32bit) Intel2Croe (4 cores) 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM 4.5Pro runs pretty well. Noticeable less responsiveness as V3 but okay.
On Macbook OSX 10.5.5 Intel2Core (2cores) 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM the DB version is crashing all the time.
As to the good things I already posted in the Windows forum:
- user configuration of the tools
- user programmable keyboard
- sharp previews up from 25% zoom
- clarity tool
- color tagging
- usability of color editor
- lens tools (except of distortion tool... this is mediocre)
As to the bad things I still don't like the interface. It's just too dark. You get tired after an hour in front of the screen.
I definitely prefer the V3 Windows mid grey interface or even would prefer the Mac white over the dark interface of V4.
Tools icons are too small.
I seriously miss the focus tool (but it will be back).
I miss per chanel curves.
I miss switchable monitor profile.
I miss support of AdobeCMM and switchable CMM.
ICC profile tags of some V4 profiles let these profiles be unvisible in V4 (Windows only). That should have been sorted out.
I miss turn on/off of adjustments. Especially for sharpness.
I miss fullscreen shortcut (old F9).
I hate the static cache location.
So ... it's not bad. And I'll use it. At the same time with V3.
And I am honestly looking very forward to V4.9.7 ... anytime.0 -
To me I get the impression C14Pro has been designed more for selling as competition against aperture and lightroom than as a intelligent capture program phocused on catering for professionals using Phase One hardware. 0 -
thomas, that is a very good and balanced -also informed- list of the good and the bad. The goo news is that tere will probably be updates and ... I hope someone at Phaseone is reading this.
They have to give the user the ability to change the color of the entire interface, I that would immediately diminish the unhappy customers percentage ... then give us back our focusing tool Pvleaze ! ... then follow thomases list..
one more thing: say something about all of this...[quote="thomas" wrote:

Give us back the range of adjustable Preference of 3.7.9 Pro, but also make an addition for a Sessions Template Preference that is user configurable to define the name of folders and perhaps the number (for instance, the capacity to eliminate the 'Move to ' folder if we don't need it, hence returning to the v3 Pro folder template. 0 -

I think they do. And I think that some things will be improved in further udpates. There were improvements from C1 V4.0 to 4.1.2 and it will be the same with Pro.
I hope someone at Phaseone is reading this.
But it would be fine if they just would list the things that are planned for Pro but just not yet implemented (stitcher, focus tool ...) and which new things they are probably going to bring in. And which not (unselectable cache location will not be changed as Jon Gilbert noted somewhere in the Windows forum).
This kind of communication would protect from unnecessary complaints. But if it comes to this point... they always say this is a "user to user" forum. Phew!
Well, one still could complain about how long it takes to implement these things... but as for myself actually I don't care so much about how long it takes to incorporate certain features but care if they will be there anytime at all. There's always a workaround. Yes, I'm frustrated, too, that some things are still not implemented... but if I know that they will be there in updates finally that's okay. But as my camera is supported by V3 I don't depend on V4... so it's certainly much easier to see it this way for me personally...0 -
I did my first "job" today -I'm doing stock images for ALAMY- tethered with 4.5 and I liked it, there are so many different ways to navigate and go to 100% that I don't feel crippled but the opposite. I know that others have different work requirements that are very particular, like checking focus on a models face while in the presence of clients etc. The small floating 100% window should definitively be back...
Then I have to re-learn SESSIONS again ... it just works differently .. among other things0 -
I am definitely unhappy with the new look of 4.5 and it seems any suggestions or requests I made did not matter and I know other people were echoing my thoughts too regarding the Lightroom appearance, etc. which was all talked about. I thought we were going to be able to have some options with the appearance of the interface from what I remember being said when the look of 4 was first introduced. I would use 3.7.9 personally all day long before going into any 4 version. I try to avoid it actually and am wishing there was another option out there that worked well. I am not sure who Phase actually listens too, because it seems like there are many whose requests seemed to mean nothing and are now left with something that is not better in my opinion. A BIG part of it for me is feel and obviously what the software is capable of doing is huge too, but I personally do not see anything in this version that is a huge upgrade from 3.7.9. Definitely not digging the look or feel which I have expressed my opinion on before and the ability to process any differently is not noticeably different from my experience so far. Who are the beta testers anyway and doesn't the feedback from the forums account for anything?
Again, as a digital tech too, we talk and work with many photographers all over the country and capturing and processing software is always something we talk about being a crucial part of a job, so it is in Phase's best interest to make the people driving the software happy and excited to sit in front of while working.0 -
For me one more big thing is to take over V3 sessions/config files, it would be a very big loss if I couldn't take over my old things ... 0
