Ranking / Color Codes from Photo Mechanic to C1- and/or back
Hello C1-Experts,
I like to use Photo Mechanic (or other tools) for the 1st quick selection of all the photos - and then pass the ranking (1-5 stars) or color codes to C1.
I know of all the shortcomings regarding IPTC support in C1 - but has anyone figured out a working way to get this data from PM into C1 - or even better, as well from C1 back to PM.
Any hints and tricks or tools are welcome. Thanks, Kay

No one had a hint....!
Any news on that topic with the new V.5 of C1?

My impression is that in that respect version 5 is worse than 4 which is worse than 3. See my latest note about a days rework and late delivery because C1Pro appears to take a snapshot of external data when it creates previews. It then appears that it does not see any changes made by other programmes. There does not appear to be a way of forcing a refresh as it seems to store that information with all the adjustments that have bern made in the .cos. So in my case I either to do all the IPTC work again or I have to readjust all the images again. Either way it is duplicating most of a days work.
It would certainly explain the variable results I have been getting with C1 seeing other data especially passing IPTC data through. I do all my keywording etc in a PhotoMechanic as I have invested a lot of time creating a substantial controlled structured vocabulary.
You have to do it all BEFORE you open the folder in C1. And there is no reverse route at all.0 -

As from my reply to your other thread of a days rework (for which I supplied a pretty workaround I hope) I am not with you on the "version 5 is worse than 4 which is worse than 3". You can discuss Capture One's behavior, some understand it (you do now) some don't. But it has been there since version 1, both Mac & Win versions. Unchanged. For better or for worse but not worse than previously IMO.0 -
Paul Thanks for the suggestion and as you will see in the other thread I had found my own workaround.
In version 3 I did not notice the load metadata at create preview stage because the IPTC text editing was pretty much as good as anything then available so I did it all in C1. It is only since v4 that I have had to use PhotoMechanic however in other applications such as Lightroom it is possible to "load from file" which refreshes the metadata from the original RAW image (or at least it does in the beta of v3).
The best thing Phas One could do is abandon their own metadata handling and come to a deal with CameraBits to do a PhotoMechanic plug-in. Now that would give us the best of both worlds!
I would argue that the metadata editing in version 4 is objectively less capable than in 3 which was as fully featured as most specialist tools at the time. In version 4 it does not have full IPTC support and in my tests (not comprehensive I admit) v5 seemed to have recreated issues that applied in early versions of 4.
I still think C1Pro is the best RAW converter and despite the reservations many have about workflow I still find it the quickest for adjusting images. Believe me since version 4 and recently 5 came out I have looked at pretty well everything else on the market.0
