filter before importing
Hi
I'm importing into my catalog some pictures.
Is there a way to filter what I to import into my catalog ?
example:
import only nef files
or nef files done with a particular lens or camera or any metada
or before this date after a date
etc
etc
you know what I mean 😉
cheers

Have you had a look at the Import Window and the options it offers?
There is a sort facility with various options that may work very quickly for some of your needs.
There is also a search facility with which you can define your selection requirements.

just to clarify I want to filter before importing the images to my catalog0 -
You can use the Global Filters option from the View menu. It should affect the import dialog as well. 0 -

Unless there is something very different between the Windows and Mac versions you should have a Search feature available at the top Right corner of the Import window. From there you should have access to the Global filters that Paul mentioned and to the full "make up your own selection" search facility.
Somewhere to the left of that should be the sort selection facility.
If you are not seeing those options it would suggest a difference between the functionality available in Windows and OSX. Or something else that it not immediately obvious.

Hi
in the import image ui I can't see any Search option.
I'm under MAC
how can it be that for MAC they didn't implement a basic functionality like that.
With out that I'm forced to import so many pictures that I don't need into the catalog.
the only option is to select them manually ? or select them with another program and copy the file into another folder ?
cheers

Well, that's another reason I am glad I use a Windows PC rather than a Mac.
That said it's not a significant feature I use in my workflow and yes my solution, if I needed it, would be to copy the files to a disk first and separate them there. I would guess the total time required might not be so different. In any case I treat importing as a background job most of the time, leaving the task to complete while I do something else if it is a large import job.
One way or another it's not the end of the world, in my opinion.

thanks
I think is quite basic feature to have.
not I huge problem to solve but I'm surprised that I can't filter during imports.
cheers

I would assume that for some reason the filter concept can be implemented within the Windows environment (Windows 7 in may case) but not a Mac environment - but not being a Mac user I can't check that.
The only other possibility I can envisage (given that Phase have been attempting to standardise functionality between OS's whenever possible) is that some other aspect of the process might be limiting their options in specific situations. However I can't imagine what that might be.
I have to agree with your sentiments about desirability - even though in this case it is not something that is important to my normal workflow.

The Search option in the Import Images dialog is indeed missing in the Mac version. It is currently Windows only.
This however should not affect the OP, as the Global Filters I mentioned are affective in the Import dialog. The Global Filters feature is both on Win & Mac available.0 -
Hi
Thanks
Could you point me to the documentation that shows where to find in the import UI the : The Global Filters?
(sorry if I'm asking too much but I can't see that filter)
Cheers

The Global Filters option is not in the Import dialog. It is in the program itself, View menu. It is effective in the import dialog as well.0 -
ok thanks for the tip
I will try as soon as I can
