None of these are "necessary" to me...

This is already present in 6.3.5, unless I am misunderstanding the request.

Double Clicking on the image with this tool gives you either 100% or Fit view.

Drop Down menu available to the right of the View Shortcut button.

As Drew has pointed out the first 2 requests are already covered in 6.3

The third request I have some sympathy for but mostly because it's not always instantly visible that on changing from one image to another one is moving wto another image that actually HAS a local layer already defined.

Yes you can look at the drop down menu but .... that may not happen in the middle of a busy edit session. Some sort of unobtrusive identifier to indicate that one is not working on the background layer (a narrow red - or some colour - border to the image when it is loaded perhaps?) could be useful. I don't think setting the default to the background on exiting the tab would be an answer - at least not for my purposes. Sometimes it would be what I want, but not always.

Yes, I'd also like to see this as a default. I probably mess this up about 1/3 of the time by forgetting to come back to the primary background.
