What's REALLY most important ...
Reading the forum I see many people complaining about many things, and I agree that things like the interface changes, the cache location, even removing the mouse-scrolling are disappointing. I've had to change my workflow to accomodate some of these too.
But in the final analysis what's REALLY most important is the quality of the RAW conversions and I gotta say that after testing a goodly sample of Canon images using BreezeBrowser, CSRAW and Capture One 4.0 that I think the C1 conversions are better. Better colors, smoother noise reduction, better details at default or near-default settings (you can make CSRAW sing too but it entails a lot more fiddling).
So thanks Capture One for doing such a good job on the thing that really matters most. I felt someone needed to say this because you are sure getting beat up on the forum 😊 (But don't stop working on fixing/changing these annoying other things that the forum members keep harping on too).

Thanks for posting Bill. I agree. Sure, some loose ends need to be addressed. Besides good output quality, I discovered many tiny improvements in workflow that proves that a lot of effort has been put in the new version. This is basically a 1.0 version since the program is fully reworked. That taken into account, it is not bad at all regarding software stability and features. 0 -
That's true: image quality is the most important thing!
Maybe most of the users forgot to mention it because C1 always had the best image quality?
😊
But yes, I agree: from my point of view the new sharpening is a huge improvement. Too, the noise reduction, esp. color noise reduction.
And the highlightrecovery with HDR works almost without artefacts (halos), really good.
If I do output without filters (no sharpening, no noise filters) I can't notice differences to V3.
So, if they now start to tune this brilliant motor and build a speedy chassis we will be on pole position.0 -
I spend some time to re-process one entire old work (industrial photos) at new v4.
I open all photos (not work if file is read only) and redo this job (with time to understand and experiment new features)
Conclusion: Better final images than old files by v3.X - and works OK with my personal iccs profiles.
So i agree with Bill. It is a great new software and minor bugs or workflow facilities i am waiting for next update.
Nando.
My suggestion for all: Reserve some time and try v4 with one big or medium old job....0
