auto-apply metadata to new capture?

You can create a preset (or style, but preset will do) for the metadata. Next, on import dialog, Adjustments, select the preset in the list for styles. Done.

Do you mean that you have to select it each and every time? Can't you set it to automatically apply the metadata for every image you import, every time?

That's what I am trying to figure out. What Paul mentioned works when you are importing from another source via the import dialog--but if you are shooting tethered this won't work.

Can new images have metadata automatically added when shooting tethered? This would be a massive help!

Have not check it, but in CO8 the program retains settings for the import images window. So, if you lucky, it is a one time setting only.

Yes, go to the Next Capture Adjustments tool. Set:
    - All other > Defaults with Styles
    - Styles > your preset or style.

Note that there have been issues with using metadata presets in this case, but not sure whether they still exist.

It does retain the settings from the previous import, but this seems to influence with the import dialog and not the next capture in tethered shooting.

I am beginning to believe that this functionality should be tied in somehow with the "next capture adjustments" tool, but I can't seem to make the metadata settings carry over from one capture to the next even after checking the box in the adjustments clipboard. All other adjustments that I change (white balance, sharpening, LCC, etc.) remain checked on the adjustments clipboard and their settings carry over on a new capture, but the metadata box mysteriously becomes unchecked and the metadata isn't applied.

I am also finding virtually no documentation out there on the mechanics behind the "All Other" settings in "Next Capture Adjustments" (Defaults, Defaults with styles, Copy from Last, Copy from Last using Clipboard, etc.) When I click the "?" it redirects me to a PhaseOne help page with a seven word description on "Copy from Last" and that's about it...I am sure there is wonderful nuance and functionality behind these options and would love it if Phase would elaborate! I think the answer to this issue is buried therein.

Sorry Paul, you wrote that last message while I was still responding to your previous...

I did as you advised, and it beautifully copied over the metadata, but I lost all other adjustments.

Can you be more specific about you worklow or action and which adjustments you lost?

When I use the "Defaults with Styles" setting, the metadata is correctly applied, but the white balance, LCC, sharpening, etc. are reset to "default" as advertised. I suppose I could assign all of those settings to a style as well, but we are changing sets and lighting throughout the day (and thus different white balance, color adjustments, contrast, etc. for each set).

I am essentially trying to have metadata "Copy from Last" the same way that other adjustments carry over.

I understand. Try "Copy from Clipboard" instead. Make sure you have selected the metadata items on the cliboard.

It does copy the metadata to the new capture, but all other adjustments (LCC, white balance, etc.) are reset.

If I also tick all of those settings on the clipboard, they will be copied over, which is problematic when I make a change to one of them, I then have to re-copy that changed adjustment to the clipboard, and then re-tick all of the other adjustments as well.

Check whether your Adjustments Clipboard is set to Autoselect Adjusted. This should prevent the need to re-tick except for metadata.

It is already set to Autoselect Adjusted. Metadata seems to require a re-tick every time, though re-ticking doesn't result in it being applied. No matter what combination or style of copying, applying, or otherwise that I have tried (and that is very many!) will produce an automatic, seamless application of metadata, other than manually applying it for every capture or every time I need to process any selects.

CaptureOne is such an elegant and powerful tool, this stumbling block is most unexpected and wickedly unintuitive! I hope Phase will consider revisiting this part of the functionality--you can certainly count on my vote for it 😁 !!!

Thanks for all your help so far Paul!

If I were you I would raise a Support Case and make an official Feature Request. That way you can be sure it will be seen in the system.

Will look into it and contact Phase One if I find any defect. As Grant suggested, raising a support case will hep too.

    Paul,

If you are going to check this do you know if the "Stack Styles" feature is used in the Capture Process. I have not seen a control for it in the Capture tab but that does not necessarily mean it does not apply in some way ...

    Grant,

Good point. Hope to look into that too. By the way, expect a new blog coming end of the month on presets and styles. 😊
