Did you have a look at the settings under NEXT CAPTURE NAMING >> Set Capture Counter Increment.

    Phase One should address this...

Naming convention: Name (token)_1-6 Digit Counter (token)

First capture = Name_002 (3 digit counter chosen)

I might be crazy, but shouldn't the first capture be 001 (3 digit counter chosen)??

Have you tried a Support Case to get an official response?

And the options to set the start number.

It's not clear to me whether that has been considered.

The point being, when setting up a new session, I shouldn't have to go out of my way to start the naming at 1. Right now, i have to reset the counter with every new session.

Do you only ever take one image in a session?

If not, why is the counter start always at 002?

No matter what i do, new session always star at (counter) 2.

I decided to try this out.

I reset my running counter (I don't use tethering regularly) and made sure that start count was 1 and increment was 1 and ran a shot and .... got number 002.

I reset start to 0, left increment at 1 and got number 000. Then 001, 002, etc.

Deleting the captured images, resetting start to 1 and running another sequence gave 001, 002, etc.

Re-running the same steps a few more times continued to give 001, 002, etc.

Somewhere in the process I would have looked at the other settings too and it is possible that those actions may have had an influence but I did not make a note of the actions or the sequence of actions.

My guess is that there might be a stored value somewhere that holds the "last number used" for a tethered shoot and is not getting reset by the "normal" process but that something I did has managed to reset it.

Note that the successful resets were performed with the camera already connected. I don't know if this is important.

One other odd thing is that if I delete the images in the Capture folder and reset the start number no images actually appear unless I deselect and then re-select the Capture folder as an image source for the browser. However after an exposure I do see a "Loading" message, but nothing appears.

However, if there is an image in the folder displayed in the browser things can be different.

    Using V9.3

I have an image named 005 in the browser.

I reset and start shooting. 001, 002, 003, 004 are created but do not appear in the browser. The next image does appear and because 005 already existed from a previous exposure I see a pop-up window suggesting to name the new image 005-1. I accept that and shoot again and 006 is created and displayed.

So there are certainly some anomalies that are puzzling although the folder display is easy to resolve.

I'm not sure what else to try. At the moment, as far as numbering is concerned, the session I am using seems to be working as expected.

    Thinking about it some more.

Do you have a session template set up?

With the file naming token system now in use which tokens do you have set for the naming? Do you have to change that token definition as part of the process of getting the start number to 1?
