Invert Colour?

I've taken some images of incense smoke against a black background.

Is it possible to invert the colours so that what was originally black is now white and what was white is now black?

The image is in colour, not B&W (maybe I ned to convert to B&W?).

I've searched for this answer but am still stuck on if it can be achieved, can it?

  use levels tool and cris cross levers
