Changing camera defaults in Pro 7

I'm trying to customize the default settings for several of my cameras. I know the routine for doing this via the WB settings and other settings, then selecting the "action tool" to apply the new default settings.

However, the new default seems to apply only to the images I've selected during a particular session, ie if I select all of the images, it applies the new default settings to all of the images.

But subsequent images from the same camera do not display the changed default. They go right to Pro 7's original default setting for that camera. Isn't the change to the new default setting supposed to be automatic? What am I doing wrong? Thanks ....

  It depends how you meant 'subsequent images'.
  
  A default value, either the original or a new value, is applied automatically to NEW images which have no settings file yet. Images that have been opened earlier, and cary the old default value, remain untouched until you decide to use the Apply Defaults command from the action menu.
  Or at least this is how it is supposed to work.
