I would start with updating to OS X 10.10.3 and do some maintenance like repair permissions. Next, in CO8, only enable the Nikon provider in preferences.

To delete the program's preferences you need to fire up Terminal. Deleting is not working anymore since Mavericks. Follow instructions from this article: https://www.phaseone.com/en/Search/Arti ... nguageid=1

Please note that CO 7 is not supported on OS X 10.10.x

Did as you suggested - no change. Averaging 4-5 seconds for the camera to be recognized, around 35 seconds for it to connect. Reset the SMC and PRAM, to no effect.

OK, one more report back with the D700 and unless someone out there has an insight I'll just chalk it up to OSX/laptop/Nikon voodoo and deal with it.

CO 8.3 - if I launch a fresh session, and connect the camera, it takes 35 seconds to connect. But only the first time. Thereafter, if I disconnect and reconnect the camera (but leave it on), it takes under 4 seconds to reconnect. If I leave the camera on, after having done the initial 35 sec connect, and create a new session - instant connection.

Now that I can get a repeatable and acceptable behavior going I'm cool with just accepting a slow initial connection, but it bugs me that I don't understand what accounts for the inconsistency.

Cycling the camera off/on while tethered puts you back into the 35 sec connect penalty box, whereas disconnecting/reconnecting it's about 3 seconds. My hunch is that there's a camera body specific device id/connection thing going on that is reset when the camera powers down.

This sounds familiar. A long shot I know. Did you perchance leave the flash card in the camera? Taking it out during tethered shooting helped my situation.

Tried to reproduce your behaviour here.

Used a Nikon D700 on a Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2012 8GB RAM (under Yosemite 10.10.3) and a Nikon D810 as well under CO1 Pro 8.3. Additionally I also tested on a Mac Pro Late 2013 with both cameras. (SD/CF cards on both cameras inserted, cameras on battery, direct USB attached to Mac for tethering)

    Outcome:
I got instant shooting and transferring with both cameras and on both Macs. Both cameras were instantly (1 sec) recognised by CO1 and the pictures transferred smoothly to the Macs with no real delay.

Hope this helps you to further troubleshoot your issue.

    Hmm...

No card in camera. Tried out a D800 with 8.3 this weekend and it recognized instantly and connected in about 3 secs. Based on my experiences so far I'm assuming it's something with the USB3 chipset on the new Retina MBPs. Thanks for your helpful suggestions.
