It's a complex suggestion and certainly not a "Plug and Play" implementation.

Yeah I know Drew. It was more of a "wouldn't it be nice if..." kind of post.

So I'm guessing from your post, its not going to happen any time soon. Is there a work around for Nikon's that you know of?

    Thanks.

A workaround I use for Canon could probably also work for Nikon: I use Canon's software to tether and provide Live View, and Capture One's hot folder feature to review the incoming images I shot (often I also use Canon's software for that as well).
Because I have Capture One Pro running, which likes to connect to my camera, I take care that I launch the Canon software first to be sure I can use it for tethering and Live View.

Uncheck canon from Providers in Capture Preferences and you wont need to worry about what order you launch Capture One.

I'll give it a try. Of course that means I need to buy more software, but oh well.

    Thanks!

Thanks Jon, just another feature I now begin to understand. 😂

Not sure why liveview is such an issue to implement... OnOne has it as an iphone/ipad app included with full camera control... which brings me to another question...

On Canon 5DmkII I can set ISO from the camera control area but nothing else... no shutterspeed, no f/stop... is this correct, or am I doing something stupid? (sorry for the slight "off-topic")

    This is correct.

Thankyou Paul... It's a shame though... can't figure why ISO would be included in functionality but not the rest... no logic...

We use the 5d MK II, and C1 Pro.

In our busy commercial studio, (6000 shots last year)We like using the live view, for which we have to use EOS Utility. When the C1 pro is then started we have experienced many weird issue with the combination. These issues don't happen when the Eos utility is not started, although it wants to when the camera is turned on and connected. While Phase one is not responsible for how Eos plays with its software, We would certainly welcome full functionality of C1 pro with this camera. And we'll wait to upgrade until we see some progress, we know that is a business decision only you can make. After all it is one of the more popular ones out there for digital capture. Here is a partial list:

    1. On one computer, (2x2 ghz intel mac , OS x 10.5.😎 when a capture is received, it wont show up in C1 pro until the user click on the desktop and then back on the C1 window.
    2. Sort window in in C1 Pro keeps changing from "date shot" to "Name"
    3. Capture one image Previews sometime disappear.
    4. Assorted hangs and crashes.
    5. Misc commands in C1 Pro don't work consistently

We do find that if the Eos utlity is started first, then the C1 Pro app, it works fairly well.

Thanks in advance for considering adding full function with Live View to C1 pro and he Canon 5d MkII

Please see also Phase One/Jon Gilbert's suggestion earlier in this thread to switch off the Canon provider in Capture One preferences. This should remove the 'start EOS Utility first' dependency. Further too few details in post to comment on (which might not be the poster's intention in the first place) like Hot Folder and Auto Select New Capture settings.

I came here looking to post this very question. I too am trying to find a tethering solution for my D700 and to be honest I'm a little surprised Nikon's only solution is a very clunky piece of software, I was hoping Phase One had the solution.

It's an open market and someone should capitalize on the availability of Nikon's SDK's.
