Catalog Locked
I've been a long time user of iView MediaPro and am working with the demo of EM2. Once in a while, my catalogs seems to lock themselves. I'll close and quit for the evening and, when I return to the work in the morning, the catalog will open as read-only. I use Save As to rename the catalog and check to make sure it's unlocked, and yet when I save it again I get a message saying it's locked and to click Save to unlock and save the file.
Any thoughts on why this is happening?
Thanks.

I use windows, but the best advise i can give is never to close the catalogue while it is in a locked state. when you get the warning just make a alteration to the catalogue like applying a colour label to a image then click save, it will ask if you wish to do this over your original catalog ,OK it and it should be fine. I find this works for me. 0 -
I'm also suffering a lot from locked catalog files (Usually after a crash). Does anyone know a way to unlock the file? I've tried the unlock button in the file info, but that only works occasionally.

Hi gerber:
I am using iView 3.1.3 on Snow Leopard. The issue with the locked catalog happens to me too, every once in a while. I cannot say, if this also applies to EM, but here is what I know about it: It seems that iView creates hidden files in the same folder as the catalogue file each time you open the catalogue. It is usually deleted when you close the application. In case of a crash or some other unforeseen event, the software does not delete the file, so it remains there. If you then open the catalog again, the software "thinks" the catalog is already open. For some reason, iView can create multiple of these files, but apparently it is limited to ten files. I have no idea, why the software creates these files, maybe it was supposed to be some kind of multi-user locking management.
Anyway, in order to remove the file (and the lock), I delete the hidden files. But first you need to make them visible. I use Tinker Tool, but there are other utilities such as "Secrets" that allow you to make hidden files visible in Max OS X. Once you managed this, just navigate to the folder with the catalog file and you may see one or many files with the same name as the catalog file and the extension .ivc_n, where 'n' represents a number between 0 and 9.
As I said, this is my experience with iView, maybe something has been changed in the last few years, e.g. the extension of the catalog files, but give it try!

And if you get to ten files it will not open the catalogue until you delete them all!
Noticed you are using iView 3.1.3 on Snow Leopard. I was forced from iView 3.1.3 to EM2 when I upgraded to Leopard due to iView crashing on importing some PDF files with images. Have you seen this problem with Snow Leopard?0 -
Yes, Dave, I think I see this also on Snow Leopard. I am not 100% sure, because I do not keep track of these events, but I am almost certain that it happened since I installed Snow Leopard (shortly after it came out). 0
