color checker

I do not have a scanner and I am use to building camera color profiles in LR using a RAW photo that I took the x-rite color checker. I use the color checker for white balance however, I also want to build a profile.

I have not been able to see where C1 Pro allows you do do this? I have done some search. One source from 2015 said that since C1 does not support DGN that it can not create a profile like LR. Another source profiles step by step but you need a scanner. I have x-Ritei1 Profiler for doing monitor calibration but again no scanner.

Can anyone explain if C1 Pro can create a color profile from a for example TIFF file with the color checker passport in the photo? Any help would be appreciated.

    C1 accepts icc profiles, so far no support for the xrite thing like inLR.
    There is 3rd party soft where you can do it instead, 3d lut creator if i am not mistaken..

    you have two options to build real working icc profiles for c1, basiccolor input and lumariver profile designer I have tested both and highly recommend lumariver profile designer because of the many options you get to design the profile you want. if you need some help to get started let me know and reserve some time to study the manual..... 😉

    Thank you both.

    Lumariver looks like what I need. I just need to decide on which version but I may start with the basic. It looks like a good winter project for me.

    On a side note - I see that the software developed in Sweden - I am a big fan of Saab. I have one of the last ones made in Sweden and sold in the US.

    That Lumariver app looks really good. And the manual has a CO specific section. I'll have a look at it, too.
    You say you tested it, is there anything one must be aware of when using a CO -> .tiff -> L.P.D. -> .icc -> CO workflow? Maybe something the manual doesn't explain? It seems to be quite straight-forward.

    what I have learn is that gamut compression can lead sometimes to undesired results ( reds, skin tones) but so far I have not seen issue in not using it, anders toger the developer of LPD is working on improvements. as tone operator I much prefer rgb/luma over neutral because this is closer to the behavior of c1 profiles.

    Thanks for recommending or just telling me that I need the PRO option. I will save me time.

    C1 profiling seems very good. I was using a custom camera profile in LR and it was noticible. C1 overall seems like a more quality product for what it does. I may wait for a while as I am learning a new camera system and software right now.

    Dumb question but do you see a significant difference from the provided C1 profile?

    I appreciate all the information and will eventually try it.

    Exactly what I wanted to see.
    I can definitely tell the difference.
    I will add Lumariver to my wish list.
    I may have missed it, but Lumariver needs a simple before after like this on their site.

    Thanks for posting your tip and the comparison, Horseoncowboy. Definitely different, and exactly where I expected it to be.

    I'm absolutely happy with Phase One's profiles for my cameras in daily use. But there are some occasions where I miss a tiny bit of accuracy.

    I did some quick test shots with only the little passport target, it works just fine!
    PD Pro is 100 Euro here in Germany, and PD Repro is currently sold for 120 Euro until December 31. I think I'll go for one of the two.

    LPD is a great tool with a lot of option some impossible to perform with normal imaging software very worth the money but one of the greatest benefit of building custom profiles is we learn and better understand color rendering in raw converter or what design decisions are behind certain generic profiles. in case of phase one they is no magic at work they only make some smart tweaks so the profiles works in a lot of different situations.

    Hey Guys,

    I've purchased LPD and created my own ICC profiles. I just can't seem to get C1 to import/read the profiles.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated...

    This is where I place my new ICC profiles:

    /Applications/Capture One 11.app/Contents/Frameworks/AppCore.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Profiles/Input

    My System:
    C1 Pro 11.01
    MB Pro 15 High Sierra

    You have to open the Capture One application package (right click on the application), and then go to:
    Contents > Frameworks > AppCore.framework > Resources > Profiles > Input (insert it together with the group of generic profiles of your camera).
    But anyway, you can tell Capture One where is your profile if it is not there.

    I figured it out on another post. I needed to add the "CanonEOS5DMk4-" before the name of my file then it showed up. Still not sure how to add it to the "other" section but whatever it works now.

    there is no need to place the profile in the application folder just save it to library/colorsync/profiles. c1 only aspect they are named in a certain way. to make the profile available use import profiles in the profile tab.
