Network storage catalog

Hi,

I am trying out Capture Pro as a DAM as well as a raw development program, and am wondering if there are any guidelines on how the catalog should be set-up. I currently have around 12,000 photos, which are currently stored on a network share. The disks in my C1 box are not large enough to store the whole image set.

Experimenting with the catalog on the network share, it seems very slow and unresponsive to anything that would query the database. It also seems to take a very long time to load the catalog on start-up.

Are there any recommendation for how to structure the set-up when dealing with network storage? Should I just try to avoid network storage altogether?

  My image files are kept on a network share, but I maintain the catalog on an internal drive. This works fine for me and is stable and responsive.

  Thank you for that Luke. I am trying your suggestion and it seems better, but it is still very slow loading. My network is slow, which wont help.
  
  It is looking like attaching disks directly to the C1 workstation may be the best option, if using C1 as a DAM.

  When you try Luke_Miller's suggestion and use referenced catalogs, you have the catalog without images on internal storage and the images on your network share (mine are on USB). You can do all the DAM stuff without connecting to the network and the network speed will be no issue. The only thing is that your images will be 'offline'. You'll need to connect to the images for working on details, printing, exporting, LCC, and such stuff.
