exported images darker than in C1
Hi, first post here; I've searched in case it's been covered but I couldn't find anything so here goes: like it says, when I export my images they are all about a third to a half stop darker than they appear in C1. Other adjustments, such as crop, are fine, and the images are lighter than the raw originals but still darker than when adjusted in C1. I have altered many variables, such as profile, but simply can't get them to match.
In case it's relevant, the camera is a Sony A7R2, computer is Macbook Pro. Any ideas would be most helpful.
EDIT: should have added that I'm using the latest version of C1.

What export format and color space are you using? Are they high enough fidelity to match C1? How do prints (profiled display and printer/ink/paper) look? 0 -
Hi Bob, thanks for the reply. It makes no difference which profile I export with, and none whether it's tiff or jpg. And in desperation - I have to get some images out to a client on Monday - I imported the adjusted images from C1 to Lightroom as tiffs, where they look the same as in C1, but when I export from LR they are also duller. So now I'm wondering if I have some obscure setting in the OS that's causing this. Weird that I've never noticed it before. I've been doing this for longer than I'll admit but never seen this before. 0 -

Yes, that's bizarre.
You mentioned darker and now duller. Both?
Duller (flatter) sounds like a "neutral" RAW image. Is the export from Lr of the C1 TIFF? Or the RAW processed by Lr?
Could it be the app you are viewing the exported files with? Which one is that? Is it capable of using the embedded color space of the image?
Sorry for all the questions. This is confusing!0 -
Curious how you are viewing the exported files? For example, viewing in PS versus Preview. Not all viewers respect the color profile of the image. I have had this issue many times. I always preview exported files in Photoshop or PhotoMechanic because I know they will present them correctly. The fact that they look right when imported into LR would indicate that the exports are fine its the viewer you are using.
Curious what you find.

Sorry about the delay in replying - I'm working away from base.
It's really quite strange. The images from C1 into LR look about the same but then from LR to the desktop they are distinctly darker, a third to half a stop. When I said "duller" I was speaking loosely and I meant darker. The saturation and all other adjustments are fine. I haven't viewed them in PS yet but will when I get back home in a week or so.
It's beginning to feel like some weird setting on my computer display (Macbook Pro retina) but I've been all through the possible settings, display profiles, etc., and nothing helps. I'm also hoping it's not some sign of impending doom, like a failing logic board, but such things are way beyond my ken. Fortunately, other visualinputs, Safari, etc are normal. I've read reports of Mac color sync causing matching problems, which is another possibility. Hey ho.0 -

If the same computer and display show the image correctly in Lr and C1, it wouldn't seem like a hardware problem.
It might be time to enter a Support Ticket with Phase One, if you haven't already.0 -
Also keep in mind as you do you viewing and testing that not all programs will use the correct color profile like LR, PS and C1. These programs are the most trust worthy. Web browsers and quick viewers are the worst to accuracy. However, viewing on a web browser for example will show how the web will view that image.
I have also had issues after I color calibrate and Final Cut would ignore the new profile where as PS saw it just fine.
Its all in the profiles.
Curious what you find.

Hi Guys, Really sorry about the long delay in getting back to people who are trying to be helpful. I'm working on a doc(video) in the wild areas of Japan where, strangely, there doesn't seem to be much wifi 😊
Just grabbed a moment in the hotel to do this post, then back out again. As soon as I get back I'll reply straight away. Thanks again.0 -
Solved! Not sure why or how but it might be something to do with the latest version - 10.1.1. I got back to base yesterday and did the update then tested with a quick adjust and export and presto, a perfect match. If it was the update, then thanks C1 team. And thanks also to the guys who chipped in with comments. 0 -
Good to hear! Thanks for the update
