mac mini late 2012 and C1P-7 - will it work?
Hello,
i got a question about using the late 2012 mac mini (i5 or i7 with 8GB - haven't decided yet) with Capture One Pro 7. Till now i am using a MBP mid-2007 (2,2 C2D, 4GB, Nvidia 8600mGT, images are on an external hd connected with FW800) and it runs good as long as i am doing basic adjustments or using presets and actually without problems. But when i use layers (which i use quite often because i do a lot of portrait work) the fans are going to make the helicopter and it comes to a severely lack of speed. Also it works very slow when i use the zoom tool and do a lot of spot removal and things like that.
So, is it possible to run it faster and as stable like it is on my MBP or is the mini to "small" for C1P especially because of the Intel HD Graphics 4000? And is the Intel HD able to run Opencl (if not, will this be a huge problem)? I only want to use it for C1P and PS CS5/6 - no video editing, gaming and so on - just photo editing. At first i thought about getting an iMac but i don't want to put this huge and terrible glossy thing beside my NEC PA241w on my working desk and the MacPro is unfortunately too expensive at the moment...
Regards,
Daniel

Yes, that works well... for me. ❗️
MacMini Quad I7, 16 GBRam, 256GB SSD, CO 7.1, PS CS 6., 16TB Raid Storage via FW 800.
The computing power of the MacMini I7 is exellent...
I am working with P25, P30+, thetered shooting via Thunderbold to FireWire Adapter
also works fine. But i am working only with 100 to 300 shots per day max.
I think, it is not a Solution for high volume shootings with high-res Backs.
Sorry for my english ...
best regards0 -
Thanks for your reply.
If it works fine with a P30+ it will surely work fine with my D700/D800E Raw files too i think. I don't want to shoot tethered with it at the moment and my daily amount of pictures is about equal to yours.
Would it be better to take the i7 or is the i5 enough for photo editing (both with 8 or 16GB Ram) for the next 2 years?

Hi Daniel,
I sometimes work with rental P65 / IQ160, so I took I7 Quad.
I can' t tell you how it performes with Nikon Raw,
but looking into the near future i think a I7 is better.

Hello Dirk,
can you tell me about your Opencl settings? Does it work with the Intel HD Unit?
Regards,
Daniel
PS Thanks for the link Nicolas - i am now very sure to buy an i7 with 8gb.0 -
The Setting is "automatic", and it seems to work. Open CL is activated in the develop settings, too.
No Problems so far...0 -
Cool, then i am going to buy one as soon as possible.
Thank you for your helpful informations!!
