Rename the application. For example, rename your CO 5 to 'Capture One 5'. Next install CO6.
You could also create a different folder, for example Applications > CO6 and install the new program into that folder.

Thank you. I was thinking about that but - aren´t the two versions than getting in conflict with the settings?
Or are they both sharing than the same settings - which is not the idea of it i guess.

They would share the same plist (preference) file. Have not tested it, but saw this advice given by a Phase One support representative, so it should be that bad.

I don't see how this COULD NOT cause problems considering that it's advised to uninstall old version before updating. But I'm happy to be corrected. For the paste while when I have need to go between 5.0.2 and 5.2.1 I've used my uninstaller app to swap between versions painlessly.

And when i finally was happy with Capture One again ...

So please Phase one make it either for free or change it that it is a stand alone version like photoshop does.

Ever since version 3.7.9, against all advice to the contrary, every time a new version came out, I would save the old version as Capture One Pro X.X.X and move it to a folder (in Documents, not Applications) called "Old C1 versions", install the new version and append its name to the correct version i.e. Capture One Pro 6.0 in the applications folder and I've never had a problem. Once I'm happy with the new version, I'll archive the old one.
This may not work for everyone, but it's never been an issue for me.
This new version is very impressive so far.

I just talked to Phase One Germany today (Herr Schnittger).

Apparently it is not recommended to use 5 and 6 neither simultaneously nor one after an other.

I have to ask that it is going to be a stand alone version or that it is a free upgrade.
We have to pay for a new version - and we did pay for the old one. So we should have the right to use both.

And no Phase One - C1 pro 6 does not have all he same features as Version 6 and can be used exactly like Version 5.

As i said before - as soon one is happy you guys try to upset us.

When you let go CO5 for CO6 and pay an upgrade fee, I don't see any issue.

As i paid for both i want to be able to use both.
Any Other program on the market works like that.

well, you can use both versions on the same computer, however it's a bit cumbersome.

    - you have to make sure to separate V5 sessions and V6 sessions (i.e. do not open sessions created in V6 with the V5 application and vice versa)
    - when starting C1 the application automatically launches the last used session. So don't open C1 from the dock… go to the session folder, right click on the respective session file and select "open with" -> C1 V5
    - licensing: not sure how this will work with PRO as you have 2 keys (one for V5 and one for V6)… but if you are running both apps in DB mode it won't be an issue
    - when V5 launches select your V5-workspace and your V5 keyboard set
    - when switching back to a V6 session make sure again not to launch V6 from the dock (as this will open the last used V5-session)… Select your V6 workspace and V6 keyboard
    _______________
    - when you want to create a new session in V5 first open an older session created in V5 (as outlined above) and first then create a new session … simply make sure that a V5 session will never be opened by V6 (do not even open an image folder containing V5 settings from the library in V6. Once image setting files contain V6 tags you can't use them in V5 anymore without issues)

not sure if this will work in a professional environment… but I wouldn't use a version 0 of any software for professional purposes anyway.

Thanks for those tips! I was switching back and forth from v5.1.2 to the demo of v6 and was having problems getting many of the settings to show up on newly adjusted images.

Wow. I love that bit about not even viewing images made with CO5 with CO6. How this company gets away with this is absurd! Quality work right there.

Not sure I follow you. Just for clarity, regarding retaining adjustments the CO 5 -> CO 6 road is fully compatible. However, regarding CO 6 -> CO 5: CO 5 can't show you the new CO 6 tool's adjustments, like keystone, but can still read the other adjustments from tools it is familiar with. Does that sounds strange to you?

    Hi everyone,

I have CO5 and recently, had to work offsite on a loaner laptop. I used the trial version of CO6 Pro to process. When I got back and transferred the working directory back to my desktop, I found that CO5 lost all the color tags.

Is this expected, or did I miss copying a file/folder somewhere that stores the color tag information?

    Thanks a bunch!

Check whether you have the latest CO 5, that is 5.2.1.
