Recipe always active even when not ticked - Cropping

The highlighted Recipe is always active for editing. Ticking makes it active for Output processing.

What you get depends on how you have defined the recipe and whether it is for a specific size and ratio.

If it is (and it's not what you now want) create an alternative recipe that is not size specific for more general use.

For example if you have the recipe Scale set to 7in long edge (Notionally to print at 7x5) you can use the 7x5 or 5x7 ratio or the 6x4 or any other ratio and C1 will consider the 7 dimension to be fixed and vary the other side as you adjust the crop.

For output processing and naming conventions, whether printing or sending to files, it makes a great deal of sense to have multiple versions of a particular commonly used recipe with each being specifically set up for different sizes, qualities and probably to go to different Output locations.

This would be especially true if you are working with absolute dimensions rather than scaled ratios.

    Hi Grant,

Thanks for the answer. That a little bit confusing to have the recipe active for the cropping function when not ticked. And I was really wondering what was going on there as it was impossible for me to crop the way I did want.

What I do retain is to have a recipe, name it default recipe, set up in such way that do not bring any limitation, I am right ?

    Hi Phil,

Well, the recipe offers a default setting for a crop ratio mainly for convenience. You can override it any time you like using the crop tool to set a different ratio or "Unconstrained". You can also quickly revert to the "Output" definition from the recipe or "Original" .

Making the change take effect requires just an edit action to what is already set or you can redraw the crop.

It is very flexible and you can set up as many options as you feel my be useful to you. C1 will always show you the results of the active (bit not necessarily ticked for output) recipe but with the option to apply a default crop (if you apply any crop at all) and override it if required.

The only caution I would offer is one for potential confusion if you have set up useful naming and output folder distribution associated with a recipe and then change everything on the fly .... but that would be entirely a user decision and part of the flexibility that is on offer. I find a degree of self discipline is useful to take optimal benefit from the recipe functionality. Sometimes one forgets in the excitement of processing a new image!

    HTH.
