Will Capture One fully use 8 core processors?
Hi,
I am contemplating investing in a new Mac Pro with either 6 or 8 cores of processing power. I have read however that certain pro software will not fully utilize all the processors cores available and can in some cases actually perform processor intensive tasks, like batch processing of images slower than a processor with fewer cores in. From what I have read so far, it seems like you can have all the processing power in the world, but if the software has not been written in such a way that fully uses multi core processes then it can be a waste of time and money.
So my question is I guess, does anyone know if the latest version of Capture One is written in such a way that will fully utilize a Mac Pro with 8 cores and would therefore give a significant performance increase to warrant the extra increase in cost? If anyone is running Capture One on an 6 or 8 cores Mac Pro I'd be really interested to hear what you think.
Many thanks,
Ben

Short answer is yes.
Top end Mac PRO has 12 physical cores but 24 logical cores.
Capture One will use all available cores fully.0 -
C1 does utilize all available cores pretty well, but one thing to keep in mind is that multiple cores do not scale linearly. an 8 core machine with the same specs as a 4 core is not twice as fast. It may be 20-30% faster at best. Before you get wrapped up in core count make sure you have all the other bottle necks taken care of. Lots of RAM, the fastest drives you can get and an optimized system will make a much bigger difference than the number of cores. 0 -
Hi Brian,
Besides increasing RAM and using ssd drives are there any other ways to optimize my mac to capture and process faster?0 -
Using a higher end Graphics Card will ensure the use of OpenCL;

Is the quadro 4000 for mac still have suspect OpenCL driver? 0
