Just confirmed that the same thing happens on my G4 PowerBook. Both systems are 10.4.2 so is this the problem? 0 -
I think it would freeze most computers its trying to cache lots of huge files at once, why not do this in bridge/CS2 even there it takes ages.
I always just browse the captures0 -
msbc,
It is possible view TIFF files if your Preferences are set to browse TIFF files.
Preferences > Thumbnails > Filtering check the TIFF box.
If it is, and you cannot view them, it may well be as acid2002 states, machine struggling with large TIFF files due to lack of RAM possibly.

I think this is related to a problem I have seen with the generation of thumbnails for new images (any new image: either a new RAW file or a processed file) when using Capture One under Tiger.
When new RAW files are imported into Capture One under Panther (MacOs 10.3.x), 'rough' thumbnails are generated on the first pass using the small thumbnail image which is already embedded in the RAW file. These would then gradually be replaced with a 'true' thumbnail generated by Capture One based on the current profile, film curve etc. You used to be able to see this change taking place as each thumbnail was generated.
However, under Tiger, the 'rough' thumbnail images taken directly from the RAW file are no longer displayed. All you see are blank, white thumbnails. You don't see anything until the true thumbnails have been generated by Capture One.
Putting this in the context of msbc's observations, when Capture One is set to view the processed folder, all you see are blank white thumbnails until the 'true' thumbnails have been generated. As these are (probably) for full sized tiffs, this is a time consuming process (so if you left it long enough, it probably would display the thumbnails correctly).
I'm also looking into what may be another thumbnail generation problem under Tiger: namely that thumbnails appear to be generated 2 files at a time! So whereas you used to get a spinning 'busy' wheel showing how many thumbnails in a folder still had to be processed, under Tiger the wheel only shows either 1 or 2 (I'm not using Tiger daily here, so I'm still investigating these types of problems).
Based on my brief experience, I think there are some issues with Capture One running under Tiger.

Keith,
Yes, I have thta option checked.
The folder contains 6 TIFF's each 47mb in size and I have 3GB memory with no other apps open.
When the beach ball spins my CPU meter shows only 2% to 3% CPU load.
Seems to be a COne/Tiger problem??0
