Hand Tool Freeze

I and others have had repeated examples of the hand tool 'locking in'- once you choose the hand tool you can't choose another tool.
It appears random- sometimes you can choose the hand tool and then choose another tool. No one has been able to find the triggering sequence.
This happened with 4.7 Pro and now 4.8. 4.8 was a completely fresh install.
Mac OS 10.5.6, MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB SDRAM.
Any answers?

  I am having this same issue today with Capture One 22, which makes it totally useless. I’ve tried restarting but to no avail. It may work on a new file for a minute or  the key ot goes back to the hand tool.or two and then it freezes again. I can’t choose any tools from the menus. Two keyboard shortcuts sort of work: the magnifier and the “G” key but when I release the key it reverts back to the hand tool. Right now it’s a useless waste of hard drive space. It’s also aggravating there is no contacting tech support directly about this. I’m on a Mac Pro running Monterey 12.1, the latest. I desperately need this to work. Help!
