For the last few years there have been new versions in about November or December. (Paid for.) Plus during the year there have been updates to the current version (free if you have that version already). And if you have a subscription rather than an outright purchase, then of course any updates or new versions are included in your subscription.

So for example with the current version (version 20) we had an update recently (20.1) that brought in some new features such as the new heal and clone tools, the before/after tool, support for Mac OS Catalina 10.15.5, etc. And there have been periodic minor updates for instance to support new lenses or new cameras, or to fix bugs.

I don't work for Capture One and I am unable to say whether the previous pattern will continue, but that is how it has been for several years.

    Thank you!!

Hmm...well, it's July now....I'm wondering if maybe it would be best to hold off on buying till new version this Nov/Dec then.

Or if nothing else, maybe I'll just buy the Fuji only licensed version and all, for my GFX and then see what they come out with towards the end of the year and if it is worth it, I might upgrade to the full PRO version at that time.....

    Thank you!!

It may be worth adding that to some significant extent some C1 upodate schedules have traditionally be co-ordinated in line with new releases of operating systems form Apple and Microsoft (usually 2 a year each with "planned" significant changes and few others with fixes for problems introduced by them!).

Camera release schedules for Phase One Cameras also have had an influence along with the introduction of new products and features by other camera manufacturers  - especially those with whom C1 has some sort of commercial relationship. Fuji for example.

Disclaimer: I have no connections with Phase One / Capture One other than being a licensed user of Capture One.

I'm not sure if I understand the motivation for such questions.

    • There is the possibility to use a trial version of Capture One.
    • After the trial you should be able to decide
    1. if you need/want the offered package/features right now or
    2. If you can wait and see what the next version might offer

Concerning the update/upgrade policy in the last years (as Ian and SFA also mentioned):

During the last years, there were free updates to support new cameras/lenses/OS versions until the next major version is published. Sometimes new features were added for free as well.

There is even a grace period, which allows buyers to get the new version for free if they bought the current version in a certain time before the launch of the new version.

What wasn't mentioned so far, it has been possible to skip a version and the still being able to buy an upgrade (i.e., just paying every 2nd year for an upgrade)

Of course, there is no guarantee that this won't change in future
