Cleaning/Altering Metadata: EXIF, IPTC,JFIF, TIFF - All of them in C1?
Hi all,
I've actually brought in images from over the years that had been done in LR and On1 RAW...PS, Affinity Photo, and different cameras.
I"m trying in Capture One 2020, to clean and customize ALL metadata before I publish these.
I'm playing in the meta data tab and I can alter/clean some of the data the IPTC stuff.
However, I cannot find how to alter and remove some of the EXIF data...?
I've pulled the images up in Preview on the Mac, using the Tools>Inspector tool and I can also see JFIF, TIFF data is stored here too....things I want to mostly clear out or alter, but I cannot even seem to see those in C1.
I"ve set up a metadata preset to start things off with...and that seems to work with most of the IPTC, but I cannot find how to get at and manipulate the other meta data.
I've been researching articles on the C1 site, most seem for older versions of C1. I've seen on article on removing metadata on the export recipes, but it refers to hitting "the advanced" tab, and I do not see an advanced tab.
I don't want to just click a include/not include checkbox for export, I want to be able to clean and alter all meta data as needed.
I'm sure I'm missing something in Capture One 2020....can someone help me please?
Thank you in advance,
cayenne

I am pretty sure C1 doesn’t support this but I think it would be a good addition. Especially with legacy lenses it would be nice to be able to fill in the lens spec and focal length later.

Wow....I would be surprised if it didn't....??
I mean, C1 is a pretty mature tool, and metadata editing/control is a pretty important and basic function of most any DAM.....
Is tis true?

Not altering EXIF is a feature and a philosophy of Capture One. You can only make changes in the IPTC, but not in the EXIF. If you want to change the EXIF data (and all other metadata), you'll have to use a third party software.

Wow...really?
Can you explain why such a limitation would be a "feature" for philosophy of Capture One?
I can't imagine a philosophy that would put such a limitation as a "useful feature"?
Thank you in advance,

It's quite simple, C1 is first and foremost a RAW processor/developer and not a DAM, that's where it has its strengths and not in asset management (nevertheless nothing speaks against that it can do that better in the future, means catalog capabilities should improve). For EXIF changes, there is free and specialized software that can handle this kind of work much more efficiently than a development application, e.g. Exif Tool by Phil Harvey

Whatever people think C1's philosophy is, I think it should be OK to make this request. In my view it would be a very useful thing to have and make the software more useful which should be the main purpose for the C1 developers. Maybe they have other priorities but it's a reasonable thing to ask for.

Do the Capture One developers read these forums, would they get this suggestion from this thread, or, is there a special method we have to use to put in feature requests?
Thanks in advance,
C

I think it's safe to assume the C1 developers do not read these forums. Best to 'submit a request' via the link at the top of these pages (next to your profile menu).

Okular: Thank you for the EXIFTOOL info, I downloaded it and figured out how to work it.
It is CLI, but I've got experience with Linux systems, so I"m used to man pages, etc....great and powerful tool, but likely not that easy for a more novice computer user. I was able to run a job in each directory of images I have, that pulled all photo metadata for each photo into a single .csv file...open it in a spreadsheet for editing, and then run a job to bulk write the changes back to all the photos.
It took me a bit to figure that just blanking out fields didn't work, that I had to put a value in there, once I did that, it cleaned everything as I wanted.
bobW and Hans Merkl: Thank you to for all your input!!
I'll try to find the request submission area of the site after I post this and put this suggestion in.
I like capture one's color and tethering features, but do need a few tweaks to really make it hum for my workflows.
Again, thank you all for the great input!!
