Using Nik Software as a plugin

This is a known issue, you need to download version 13.1.0 and run with this version. There are many posts on the topic here.

Thanks Mark.  I've read all of those and the 'fixes' that are supposed to work.  None of them do for me and I only get a constant outcome: "connection with plugin failed. Please try again".

    This is pretty frustrating.

I notice in your screen grab that you have the Openwith plugin 1.0.1, is this still the case? If so this plugin was associated with version 13.1.1 of C1 and I know of relatively few people who have got this version to work with their plugins, for most it does not work. I installed 13.1.1 when released and soon after reverted as I completely lost the ability to use plugins. I had to downgrade to 13.1.0 of Capture One. Version 13.1.0 of C1 uses openwith plugin 1.0.0.

If you still have version 13.1.1 of C1 installed I suggest that you download version 13.1.0 and try that.

Mine is build 31.1.1.31.  I'll try to downgrade to 13.1.0 if I can figure how to do that.

    You can download from here:

If struggling with the above link then check this from Samoreen.

Some people chave done a side by side installation, i.e. Just install it to a different directory so both versions are available, I myself just uninstall Ed 13.1.1 and installed 13.1.0 in its place.

Thanks Mark. I'm just downloading it now.

I appreciate your assistance with this.

Larry, it should populate that preferences page, and there should be no "could not be retrieved" error with 13.1.0. If you have trouble seeing the Nik Software in the list on this page, translate the following page and follow the instruction. These instructions allowed me to populate the list for everything I wanted to edit with and open with. I had to go thru each of the Nik products one by one, but once I did that I was good.

Hmm.  After downloading and installing the 13.1.0.  I now get some things showing up in the list of available software, though none that I want to use.  However I can't seem to add any other programs to the 'available programs' list.

What I can do though is right-click on an individual TIFF file and choose edit in and get to the Nik software that way.  It still doesn't populate the list and forces me to generate a TIFF file of the image then individually, every time, choose edit-in and then browse for the .exe file but is a workaround that I will tolerate that at least enables me to use the Nik software.

It should be much less complicated than this and I didn't expect such clunkiness when choosing to swap to Capture One.

Larry, it is not very well designed. However, follow the instructions on the spanish page I posted and you will get around the problem with the Edit/Open with list not being populated the way you want. You will be able to add each of the Nik packages and they will stay there. Or I should say, that is what I did and it worked for me.

As far as using the new Nik ability to keep track of your Nik settings and mods in between each time you open the .tif file... the trick is to use "Edit with" the first time to generate the .tif file and run the Nik program. And then the next time, select (highlight) the .tif file in C1 and use the "Open with". Open with will not ask to generate the .tif file and it will simply pass the file on thru to the Nik program. And Nik will know it is the same .tif file and use the new Nik "Resume editing later" feature.

    Larry,

I did notice just now that the browse window would reflect the changes I made using the Nik program, but the View/edit window did not always seem to. But it is some sort of cache thing with C1, because if I went to another subdirectory in my C1 catalog, and then went right back to the one with the Nik .tif image, it updated the View window.

Thanks Kevin.  I just saw your messages.  I'll continue working on the issue with your suggestions.  I'll probably get time to do that later tonight.

    Regards

    Larry
