I've shot a capture file and cropped it square, lets call it 'shot a'

I now wish to re-crop 'shot a' landscape and call it 'shot b'

So, I create a clone variant of 'shot a' and crop it landscape, but when I rename it 'shot b' - 'shot a' is also renamed as 'shot b'!

How can I stop this or am I doing something wrong?

  It's simple: Variants can't have different names than their originals.

  There is no facility to rename variants independently.

  The easiest way to handle this is with keywords; e.g., square and crop. Each variant can have its own set of keywords. You could use color tags but then have to remember what they stand for.
