Capture One and File Management

I am a recent convert to Capture One Pro, coming from Lightroom 6.

 

I have a question about importing files to my Capture One Catalog.

Does Capture One create a duplicate of my raw file, or just a reference to where the file is located.

 

I current transfer my image files from the cameria to my computer, (Windows) ....Users/Pictures/Date

If I import files from that directory/sub directory, it appears that Capture One copies to the file itself to the Capture One Catalog.

 

What is the best way to import files into the Catalog?

  The import process is pretty similar to Lightroom. You can either use Capture One to move the files from your memory card to a folder of your choice, or you can move the files manually from your memory card using Windows Explorer and then import the files to your catalogue in their current location.   In the Import dialog under "Import To" select "Current Location" for "Destination" to import the images without moving/copying the files.
