I think this has been discussed before and I think the answer was that there is not a way of forcing C1 to overwrite. There are I think ways of dealing with it, but think they are quite manual. It is possible to manually delete the old version before output of the updated version but think you may have to then synchronise the output folder and then output the new version, it's pretty messy.

Others may have a better answer.

This is one of the reasons why I never do metadata work in C1. I do not fancy the idea of reprocessing an image just to add or alter metdata in the already processed image. I use Photo Mechanic for metadata, it is a metadata power tool. If you are not prepared to spend extra money, my advice would be to learn how to use Phil Harvey's exiftool, with or without a graphical user inteface added. I prefer the command line exiftool, it can do things that even Photo Mechanic won't.

If you add a keyword to your raw file, and you have already produced output (such as a jpg) from it, you can add the keyword to the jpg as well, and then just re-upload the newly keyworded version of the jpg file. No need to generate a new jpg with the 1 added to the file name.

I sometimes find myself having rushed out a jpg or two to Facebook before I have done my keywording. I find the easiest way to sort it out is to go to All Images, where I will see the raws and the jpgs together, and I can add the keywords to both. (Assuming the jpgs are in the catalog, of course, if you are using a catalog.)

Thanks for the replies so far. Even if it's a bit discouraging.

For now I'll just plan on manually deleting the old file, exporting with the updated edits, and reuploading the file where I need to.

Or maybe import the jpg's into Lightroom 5.7 and use the SmugMug plugin...

Long term, I guess I just have to hope C1 gets updated with better publishing support.

That said, I really wonder why Lightroom is the only all in one tool that takes publishing and metadata seriously... I mean, really, Lightroom 5.7 does a better job with publishing and metadata than C1 20, and C1 20 is 7 years newer... If LR was sold normally, instead of that subscription, I'd never have even looked elsewhere...

I switched to C1 from LR 5.7 for the updated raw and lens support. But only after checking out DxO, Affinity, Corel, ACDsee, ON1, and Luminar. Oh, and Darktable, Shotwell, xnview, and RAWTherapee in the open source world.

None of them have publishing and metadata features that match LR 5.7. Luminar's devs even broke their promise to add metadata support (from what they said it's apparently too boring to work on...)

Do most people just not make use of these things?

This is one of the most requested features in Capture One.

    And yet it continues.

Lightroom all the way for publishing.  It keeps track for Flickr, Smugmug, and Photoshelter. Hopefully facebook too but not used that yet. I use LR for catalogue and CO for edits and output. Sync all output after into LR.
