Importing a Capture One catalog

    Ernst,

The crash report errors seem to suggest some TIFF files with EXIF metadata formats that C1 does not recognise.

Might it be that the Catalog you are importing  contains some TIFF files that have been created by an external application - perhaps a "round trip" of some sort?

Alternatively might it be that they are just not supported files? They might be ignored in regular catalogue processes but are not expected by the specific copy catalog to catalog functionality.

Did you try a verification on the source catalog to see whether C1 identified any problems with it that might affect the success of importing it into another catalog?

    Hi SFA,

thanks for quick reply! I appreciate. :-)

    > The crash report errors seem to suggest some TIFF files with EXIF metadata formats that C1 does not recognise.

This I am aware of. Nearly no problem with these few ones. I'll fix it. They all are created by C1 and "Edit eith..." Photoshop or another Editing Software. But don't mind.

The problem for me are the nearly 180 other images (RAWs) that are not imported but are found in the imported images as well. The message "Could not find folder" for images I cannot assign to the images. The physical path of them is working, the images seem to be strangely enough imported too.

    > Did you try a verification on the source catalog to see whether C1 identified any problems with it that might affect the success of importing it into another catalog?

Yes, of course. I checked catalog, and the check passed successfully. In a second try I wanted to esport the images into a fresh catalog - same error massages.

Maybe I am able to check image by image tomorrow. But this will be half a day I think...

Background for my work: As I have to gather images for special books very often I try to get one catalog for all the years. At the moment I have to keep a lot of thematic catalogs ("USA" as one example) separately but it would help to get ar least the "normal" years all together under one catalog.

    Kind regards
    Ernst

Maybe I have found something: The import included a group "LR6Gesamt Bad Leonfelden + Krumau" This contains the rest of a project which is separately created (as a project) in the catalog. Maybe there are the images with older paths. I will check tomorrow. This group will be deleted because it is not more than remainders left from former import.

Oh! It is an adventure. And it takes time to solve. I hope I do not bore anybody.

As I tried to go through the list of problems during import image by image, I found an interesting thing.

There is a file with problems.

I am searching this file in the catalog where it should be imported and - at first - cannot find it:

I made a second attempt with shortening the name:

...and could find it promptly. It is named exactly as shown in the errorlog. WTF?

Second question: There are the unnamed files with a message:

2020-12-06 09:43:17.039> (WARNING) Libtiff(TIFFFetchNormalTag) : Incompatible type for "RichTIFFIPTC"; tag ignored

Is there a possibility to find out the name of theese files so that I can solve the problem? The message is "WARNING" but on the other hand "ignored"...

Kind regard to anybody who tries to help. ;)

    Next step:

As comparing list with "not imported" images I can find easily that there are some images imported. The not imported images are images that were deleted (physically) in the catalog and on harddisk with <ALT><DELETE>.

Please note: There is not one file in the trashcan (totally empty). The database passes tests successfully.

How can this happen? (It happened with no catalog or catalog import before.)

    Kind regards
    Ernst

    Now the story ends:

After correcting all the lost paths (one but 20 images) and two single lost images I could import the whole old catalog to a new one. At least it seemed so. BUT.

The screenshot you see above shows 99,94 percent imported and stays at this point. As I can see: There should be 30245 images and only 30226 have found into new catalog. More important is the list of groups of albums by years. In the old catalog which was imported there are groups up to 2019 - in the new catalog this list seems to end at 2007 but growns within the last hours up to 2019. Sure is: The number of imported images has not changed the last hour.

And there was no message in between.

Where are the missing images (and what’s their name)?

    Regards
    Ernst
