The proposal makes sense but I feel it would be undesirable to have the whole browser view shift every time one changes the selection.

I suggest to provide a user preference, e.g., with the name "browser view margin", which specifies how far away the selected image(s) will be from the beginning or the end of the browser in terms of images. If the selection moves beyond the specified margin, the browser view will shift to keep the selection out of the specified margin.

The specification could be made in terms of "number of images" or "percentage of images shown". The latter would make more sense, in my view, given that the browser may assume different sizes. So a specification of "25%" would mean, for instance, for a total of 20 images there will always be 5 images in front or after the selection. Outside these 5 image margins, however, the selection could be moved without changing the overall subset of images displayed.

    Hi Class A,

    Thank you for your insights.
Basically your proposal will give the same results because it will let you see the upcoming photos.

To me it doesn't matter how they implement it. The way I proposed it is the way which millions of Lightroom users do it for years now. So that's why I thought it would be something that would appeal to many users.

But like I said, as long as there is some way we could customise the browser panel so it would show us the upcoming photos.

    Hi Brian,

    Thank you for this suggestion.

It was taken on board as something to consider for the implementation in future versions.

As this post is marked as completed, is this functionality implemented now. I am searching for this Option.

I would also like to see this change made. Not seeing the next handful of images slows down my editing process. Photo Mechanic has done this perfectly - open a photo and you'll see how the selected photo is always in the middle until you reach the end of the gallery.

Class A, a workaround could be to keep the browser view static if you select a photo manually with your mouse, and resume the center position when you continue to browse with your keyboard arrows.
