Can't figure out how to apply a tint to a black and white conversion.
I know about adding presets, however I need the image to reamian monochrome and be in full control of the tint color.

Hi Steve,
Try:
Mask colored object(s). Copy mask and invert mask. Set saturation zero.
Result object(s) in color and the periferie black and white. Do you mean this?
Kind regards.

Hi,
Well kinda, I need to end up with a tinted black and white conversion that is monochrome. That is if looking at RGB values only on can be changed. I tried your method and since the color info is still available using that process I was able to apply a tint using the basic tab, all colors selected and then applying a tint via color balance mid tone adjustment. This obviously only affects the midtones though. Looking to tint all tones and access to a color picker would be optimum.
edit just looked again and highlight, shadow and midtones can all be tinted this way but no way to match the values and if I choose to tint just one of the ree it is using all channel so it's not true monochrome.

In the "Black & White" tool there's an option for "Split Tones" which will add a tint to Highlights and/or Shadows.
However I don't think there's a color picker anywhere but you can get the same tones with the numbers from the Hue slider.

In addition to the Split Tones options in the Black & White tool, you can use the Color Balance tool to tone your images.

Yes, I thought of that. But you can't be sure that you have shadows, midtones, and highlights all set to the exact same values, to achieve a uniform tint which was what Steve seemed to need. And the overall control (as opposed to the separate shadows, midtones, and highlights) doesn't produce any tinting.

That is right Ian, the 'master' color wheel of the Color Balance tool works very early in the processing pipeline, before B&W, while the 3-way wheels work after the B&W tool since 11.1 or 11.2.
If you like to control the 3-way wheels in sync, you can use the presets from the Image Alchemist. There is a free set from him to try. ;-)
