Activate Brush Associated to Layer
Version 14.1 allows linking brush parameters to layers. This is very helpful.
However, it is not possible to select a layer and then activate the brush that is associated with that layer (using the same shortcut/icon, regardless of the layer type).
Selecting any brush first and then selecting a layer second, will select the brush associated with the layer. This works, but it is limiting to be forced to obey this particular ordering of operations. It is often the case that one works on a layer, then changes the tool, say to "Vignetting", and then wants to return the still selected layer in order to continue brushing.
I realise that after selecting the layer, selecting a brush that does not match the one associated with the layer is currently intended to automatically create a new layer and use the selected brush on that new layer. However, now (version 14.1) there is a notion of having a brush (with certain brush parameters) associated with a layer, would it not be more than natural to have a single way (one keyboard shortcut) to activate the associated brush?
Currently, one still has to manually select one of "adjustment", "heal", or "clone", matching the layer type, to activate the right brush (without making C1 change the layer selection against one's will).
Having to make the above correct brush choice manually is not only forcing an unnecessary burden on the user, it also forces the user to use three different shortcuts where one could suffice. The latter aspect is of particular importance when using editing consoles/controllers. It should not be necessary to sacrifice three controller buttons for brush activation when a single controller button could do the job.
If the brush tool happens to be selected already, all is well; selecting another layer just activates the brush belonging to that layer. Yet, if a different tool is active and one selects a layer and then just wants to use the brush associated with that layer, it is currently impossible to do that with one and the same action, regardless of the layer type.
Please provide the option to associate a keyboard shortcut to the action "activate the brush which is associated with the currently selected layer".

Windows 10 and the final beta version of 21.1 where brushes have been used to create layers, seems to select the brush automatically if a directly created layer is selected (i.e. a layer auto created by using a brush) or if the brush is selected first the related layer will be selected.
Life becomes a little more complex if selecting the brush and there exist tow or more layers for the same brush but I think that is something that may require more active practical usage before seeing it as a logic problem with alternative solution.
Are you seeing a different result?

Thanks for your contribution.
I know that the correct brush is automatically selected if one selects any brush first and then the layer. I specifically mentioned that in my feature request.
The problem is that the reverse ordering -- first select the layer and then the brush -- does not work as desired. Postponing the brush selection (e.g., because the layer has already been selected earlier and one has used one or more different tools in between) now forces one to specifically select one of three brush types (adjustment vs clone vs heal).
If I, at this point, wanted to create a new layer or continue to brush in any of the top layers whose type correspond to one of the brush types (adjustment vs clone vs heal) then the current behaviour would be appropriate.
However, my point is that one often just wants to continue brushing in the currently selected layer (without any intent to switch to a different layer). C1, at present, does not support this use case ideally, because it forces the user to pick the appropriate brush type (adjustment vs clone vs heal) or else it will change the layer selection.
The above is not a matter of "life getting complex" and the solution is not getting used to the brush selection paradigm. I already know that C1's current behaviour does not suit a use case that I regularly encounter.
The solution is to provide one more keyboard shortcut (I personally don't care if there is a dedicated icon for it in the GUI or not) which activates the brush that is associated with the currently selected layer (if no layer is selected, the adjustment brush could be activated).
With 14.1.0, Capture One acknowledges that the use case to return to an already existing layer to tweak its mask is a legitimate use case (otherwise, linking brush parameters to layers would not have to be supported). With this acknowledgement should come the recognition that wanting to continue to brush with whatever brush suits the layer, is also a legitimate use case.
I hope I was able to better motivate my request.
P.S.: The lack of a single function to activate whatever brush is necessary, i.e., the fact that the (new) brush selection system of 13.1.0 was only 50% fixed in 13.1.1, so far prevented me from updating to 13.1.0. I stuck with 13.0.4 since I did not want the new brush selection paradigm.
Only now that "style brushes" offer a very efficient way of utilising brush presets (which formerly were very slow to access), I decided to upgrade to 14.1. Now I'm hoping that the last 50% of the fix that 13.1.0 required can be done. This is not about undoing anything that has been added since then, but just adding a tiny bit of functionality to bring back the efficiency of layer mask tweaking (one brush shortcut was sufficient for all layer types) that existed in 13.1.0.0
