New variants.

Do I have this right? If I am in a Smart Album based on color tag and rating,  and I "New Variant", the new variant does NOT appear in the smart album, but appears in All Images? Sure looks that way. Sure looks like more than adjustments are reset; ratings as well. If this is intended, it is very annoying. Am I missing something?

  Depends. You have two options for making a virtual copy of the image.

  

  "New Variant" (keyboard shortcut F2) creates a virtual copy with no adjustments. This way, you can start again from scratch.

  "Clone Variant" (F3) does what it says on the tin and makes a duplicate with adjustments. I use this when I've got to a certain point where I want to preserve the image, but also want to try some additional adjustments.

  It depends on how you've set up the smart album, but I would expect a cloned variant to appear in your album, but not necessarily if you use "New Variant".

  Right. And which I find annoying if I have to then go find the new variant in another album. Shouldn't ratings be preserved? Why are ratings considered "adjustments"?
