How often comes C1 upgrade??

I am curious about new(er) version of Capture 1.

I downloaded test version and so far I like it, especially because of live view and tethering for my Nikon cameras.

I haven't play much with other settings.

Now, I would like to purchase this software, but am curious if I should wait few more months for the next major upgrade.

Do you fellas have any info how often comes the C1 upgrade?
I mean, to the major version, so we habe to purchase the next upgraded version?

If it's not going to happen for another year or so, I would gladly purchase the current version.

 

I know, that many of you are here regular users and do not work for or not affiliated with C1, but just asking to hear about your experience with their upgrade schedule and time.

  For the past several version number changes the upgrades have been delivered every year. This seems to be in order to align with the annual major version updates of operating systems as scheduled by Apple and Microsoft. 

  If you have an active subscription to Capture One you always have access to the latest software.

  If you buy a perpetual license it is your decision when to upgrade and an upgrade charge is payable UNLESS the purchase of the license was within about a month of the release of the new version.

  As of last year, there was quite a clear marketing exercise to clarify when a purchase would be considered as a purchase for the future version but still enable installation and use of the then-current version before the new version became available.

  For guidance, in recent years the new version release has tended to be around the end of November/Start of December.

  In recent times during the lifetime of a new version, there has been at least one significant update to functionalities included before the next version number update. There may also be several smaller functional updates over the life of the version.

  This pattern seems to have been quite consistently applied for some years and is typical of the industry so it seems reasonable to assume that it may continue for some time. However, with so many major organisations appearing to be actively moving to a subscription basis there is the possibility that at some future point the concept of a perpetual license that one can use "forever" without further payment (and without perpetual updates) may disappear at some point as far as the software industry is concerned.

  Based on history the V21 version will the current version for the next 6 months or so. 

  If you have enjoyed your experience and want to continue with C1 immediately my recommendation would be to do so and enjoy it straight away rather than wait. FOr a Windows user the current version seems to have reached a good level of maturity after some updates since it was released in early December 2020.

  If you had asked the question in, say, the month of October, the advice of many here might have been to wait for a few days and watch for announcements.

  Thanks a lot for your answer.
  I checked and researched on the net and looked up the wiki page, then I found same thing, that the major release for past years was introduced in Nov/Dec.

  I do like it, and will probably buy it, which with current laptop and camera will run for next few years without any major upgrade, since its already almost all what I need to do and will use this software for.

  I don't think I can go wrong with this purchase.

  Anyway, thanks a lot for your time and answer.
