copying color image adjustment over to b&w image doesn't convert it to color

Sorry if this is basic but I cannot figure it out.

I have a color image with all kinds of adjustments. I click on the copy adjustments arrow and want to paste the adjustments onto a black and white image because I want it converted back to color but pasting adjustments does NOT convert it back to color.

I also tried to select ALL adjustments on the color image, but as soon as I click on copy adjustments, it deselects lots of adjustments.

  Is your B&W image a greyscale image or was it originally a colour image that you have changed using the B&W tool?

  If you have used the B&W tool just delete the use of that tool and the image should return to colour.
