Spot repair tool vs magic brush
In the Layers tutorial, David answered a question regarding using the Spot Removal tool vs the Magic Brush and he said that he rarely, if ever, used the spot removal tool anymore. I encountered a good reason to use it, however. When one is using the quick adjustment keys to make rapid adjustments, if you then use the magic brush, CO creates a heal layer and the quick keys no longer work until you switch back to the basic layer; sort of defeating the purpose. If instead you use the spot removal tool you can keep using the quick adjustment keys. For me this is more efficient. Any thoughts?

Use whatever works best for you.
If you have an image without the need for any layer then maybe use the spot tool (if it works for that image) because you spare the .comask file being created, which means less space needed and no issue with lost masks (which was not reported often but seem to have happened).

Are you sure he said "Magic Brush" and not "Healing Brush"?
I find the Healing Brush to work much better than Spot Removal and have been using it exclusively for quite a while.
I'm not sure, but I believe the reason the quick keys don't work on heal (or clone) layers is that those aren't adjustment layers, and adjustments can't be made to them, other than Opacity via the slider.
After using Heal/Clone, if you want to make adjustments just create a new adjustment layer above the heal/clone layer. One thing I just thought of is that if you want to make adjustments to a heal/clone layer, you might be able to create a new layer and right-click "Copy Mask" from the heal/clone layer to the new layer. Now that I thought of it, I'll try it later today...
