DNG & Keywords

    I have just a handful of DNGs and yes, this problem happens to me too. I'm curious to see others' answers, but in my understanding C1 can't delete keywords in DNGs, or at least it's not the simplest path one can think of (C1 by policy doesn't change source files; perhaps one might work around this by re-exporting DNGs and overwriting the sources but I find it cumbersome and error prone, especially if one has many files to process). So I presume you should do in LR - or another tool capable fo manipulating DNGs (I think I'll do in the latter way).

    But let's see what others say.

    This is an issue for a long, long time. I imported my Lightroom library 6 years ago, and when I wanted to get rid off keywords imported from LR in DNG's, I could do it while I was working, but as soon as I quit and reopened C1, they reappeared. In such a way that I decided to create a new keywords basis. Fortunately, as I don't use keywords very much, it was not a big problem. But for other users, yes.

    Unlike Lr Capture One never updates the original file.  If Lr added something to the DNG or other original file it will be there until removed by some software, but never by Capture One.   Until it is removed every time you load or sync metadata the original keywords will again be read.

    Use Lr or Exiftool or some other metadata editing program to remove the keywords you don't want and then reload metadata in Capture One.  That is the only way I know to get rid of a keyword in the original file.

    I always have a terminal window open and find exiftool easy to use on the command line.  To remove all keywords from {filenames} using exiftool:

     exiftool -overwrite_original -keywords= {filenames}

    After that I select the image(s) in Capture One and Load Metadata.  It does not change the Keywords known by Capture One.  But from that point you can remove a keyword within Capture One and it will stay removed.
