This doesn't look like a Capture One issue, but rather a general one about how to retrieve data from a dead computer (or battery). Usually, making a copy of images and catalogues should belong to the best practices.

Yes. Given that from Abigail's question I presume there's no backup, at this point the best thing to do is to search a technician specialised in data rescue.

Abigail, if you can't reach a technician immediately: if it's possible to easily remove the battery because there's an accessible compartment, do it. If there isn't but it's relatively easy to unmount the laptop and remove the battery, try to do it (be careful for yourself to prevent electric shock): leaving flooded electronic equipment under tension can make things worse. Also, don't try to connect to power supply.

PS Also be aware that even though laptop batteries are usually well sealed, there's always a chance they can be dangerous (catch fire and/or explode) when flooded. So be careful for yourself.

What year is it? If 2015 or earlier you can remove the SSD/HDD and connect it to another computer using a dock or other device. Docks are available from OWC and other vendors.

If it's one of Apple's newer sealed shut laptops, you might have some luck going to an authorized service provider, but it's a longshot.

After this disaster, consider always saving a copy of your critical files to an external drive. Either use something like Carbon Copy Cloner to make a full backup, or use Finder to copy your C1 catalog, originals, and anything else of importance to an external drive. Whenever I'm relying on a MBP I always carry an external SSD and diligently copy all C1 data to it every night.

    Good luck!
