Auto Levels Clipping Thresholds -- tool extention, feature request
I set my Shadows and Highlights settings to 0.00% for the Auto Levels Clipping Thresholds, but would really like if I could set it to say -50% ... let me explain: Let's assume my red highlights are at 80%, and my green highlights are at 90%. So if set to 0% I will end up having my red and green highlights at 100%. Now with the new feature in place, setting to -50% I will end up having my red highlights (originally 80%) now new at 90% and my green highlights (originally 90%) now new at 95%. This would help preserve some of the color, tones in the highlights.
Or is there a plugin that will do this for me?

Yes, this has been a shortcoming that I would like to see a fix to please.

Have you considered using auto-levels in colour channel mode rather than RGB?

Re-reading this I see what I want is the ability to set a negative value. I'd like to have a little bit of space below and above the curves, so that it does not clip. I think Nathaniel would like some sort of relative adjustment.

I am trying to put it in other words: What I would like is some control over how much of an auto-correction should be performed. So instead of correcting all highlights to a set 100% white, it would be nice if one could set a correction amount that will honer the tonality of the colors in the highlights.

Is it possible to use auto-levels, highlights etc. on a layer? Then you could reduce layer opacity to tame them.
